Vista won't recognize Office Standard 2007 disk
- Hi--
I had some issues that required me to use Norton Ghost and revert my machine to the original factory condition. It seemed to go fine. I began to install software. QuickBooks loads fine as well as other programs, but Vista will not recognize the Microsoft Office Standard 2007 disk.
When I insert disk, it trys to load then says, "insert disk." The drive reads other disks perfecdtly. It recognizes the 2003 Office Basic disk, QuickBooks, etc. The Office Standard 2007 disk I am trying to load is fine too, because a second computer recognizes the Office Standard 2007 disk.
It seems that maybe I am missing some important Vista file. I had received another error earlier while installing a different program. The error was "side-by-side configuration..." The solution was installing some c++ file. Then it worked fine.
Thanks for your help!
Ralph

- Copy the Disk in a more cooperative computer onto a CD-R and then try the new CD in the problem computer. Some computer CD drives just don't like the brand or color of the media you insert.
What Mode is your CD Drive using, you could try changing that mode?

- My guess would be you have some problem in your .Net Frameworks redistributables. You add those in from the 'recomended' list on Windows Update. You were probably updated when your first installed Office, but the Norton Ghost rollback has your system lacking one of the .Net Frameworks updates.
Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP - Thanks Mark I'll give it a try!
- I downloaded the .NET Freamework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package x86 version, but no luck. Any other ideas?
- There are several reasons why a CD would not be seen. There's the 'upper filters' trash iTunes has to have to run, and then there is a Permissions problem in the registry for the CD. You runnin' the tunes? :)
Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP - not running tunes, actually partly why I did the total wash--to clean all the ____ off the laptop and just run the basic work programs, Office 2007, QuickBooks, etc. I've only installed QB and the new HP drivers for the printer. Then I tried to install Office 2007 and it just won't see the disk.
Thanks again for your help! - Well, If I were you, I would be ready to hack at it by this time. I would copy the whole CD to a subfiolder on the hard drive, and run setup from there. Why it's not seen may be an "AutoPlay" setting. Look at the Control Panel autoplay app for that.
Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP - the problem is that when I place the Office Standard 2007 disk into the drive - my machine doesn't see it. It searches, then stops. It's not there. If I try to browse the drive--it tells me to "insert a disk." Any other disk works and the same disk works in other computers.

- Thanks everyone for your help. I put the disk into a more "friendly" drive on another computer, copied the files to a external drive then installed to my laptop from the external drive. Just seems like you shouldn't have to do this stuff in 2008...
If I am not back here (and hopefully I won't be...) Happy New Year!
