When I am trying to set the volume on my laptop speaker, I drag the scroll button up to the desired level, but the button "slides" back down to the zero volume level after just a moment.  The sound increases, but decreases to zero as the slider starts it's decline.  This also happens in other applications.  I can use the mouse pointer (by clicking) to move the bar up or down, and I can also use the wheel on the mouse to do the same in the other programs, but the volume control doesn't work with the mouse "wheel" either.  I can manually increase the volume by touching the volume increase (or decrease) on the keyboard.  I feel it must be a problem in Vista Windows, but cannot resolve it.  My laptop is HP Pavilion dv2000 AMD Turion 32 bit OS.

    Hello PLMULLER48,

Thank you for posting.  The volume control in Vista is directly tied to the sound card drivers.  The volume control and the mixer take their functionality from the drivers as well.  I would recommend contacting your OEM’s website and updating the sound drivers to see if it will correct the issue.

    Thanks,

    Jack
