Running combat flight simulator in vista
- Hi
I am trying to run the original 1998 version of combat flight simulator in vista. I have run this no problem in xp. The program installs OK and runs OK but does not work from a joystick. I can calibrate the joystick from within the program but not actually control anything. I have installed flight simulator 98 and had exactly the same problem. Both programs ran perfectly in xp. I realise that the latest versions will more than likely work OK but at the moment cannot afford to replace my existing.
Thanks
Simon

- Hi Simon,
It seems that the drivers for joystick is not updated for windows Vista. Let us know if the joystick works on other games in Windows Vista.
Try to access the link below and install joystick drivers for vista and install the same as administrator.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/441/302&cl=gb,en?softwareid=633&osid=13
If this does not work try to contact Logitech and verify if they have any updates on this for Vista.

- Hi Simon,
You have to go to settings on the main menu the controls and select joystick, enable joystick and/or calibrate joystick. If this doesn't wok then in gameplay push "alt" on your keyboard if the task bar for flight simulator isn't at the top. Once or if it is allready there select settings and then enable joystick.
Thanks
Irfan
Hi Simon,It seems that you have issues configuring the joystick to play 1998 version of combat flight simulator and flight simulator 98
In addition to Syed Irfan’s suggestion you may access the link below and try to fix game controller issue on your computer.
Link to troubleshoot game controller problems:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831361You may try to download the latest drivers for your joystick from the manufacturer’s website and install it. Also try installing the games in Windows XP compatibality mode and verify if it works.
Steps to install games in Windows XP compatibality mode:
1. Open the Installation source.
2. Right click on the Install or Setup icon and click properties.
3. Click on compatibality mode.
4. Select Run this program in Compatibality mode and select Windows XP.
5. Click on Apply and OK.
6. Try installing the game again and verify.Hope this helps in fixing the issue.
If the issue persists you may have to contact the game manufacturer to verify if it is compatible with Windows Vista.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.
I have tried downloading latest drivers for the joystick (wingman attack 2) and installing them, still no good. Tried deselecting then reselecting joystick in program, still no good. Tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling in xp compatability mode, no good. I followed the link for troubleshooting game controlers but none of the things suggested made any difference. The program is seeing the joystick as it is possible to calibrate it, but it will not control anything. As the game is a microsoft title I am assuming that it should work ok, in fact everything seems to work ok except the joystick! Not sure what else to do now.
Cheers

- Hi Simon,
Did you ever sort this problem out? I have the same glitch with vista using a logitech extreme 3d on combat flight simulator. I can test the joystick and it works but will not do anything during the game, also the game profiler will not appear and I get a message that there is no gaming device detected.
Cheers
Simon L. - Simon,
If you figure it out, let me know. I have a Microsoft SideWinder joystick, but it is doing the same thing in CFS. I can calibrate it, but it simply will not work. I followed all the steps suggested above, and it still did not work. I am running Vista 32. Anybody got a fix????? - Hi
Thanks for the replies. Never did get it to work and so have given up! None of the things suggested made any difference. The pc and vista are seeing the joystick, I can calibrate etc no problem, cfs is seeing the joystick as it will calibrate etc from within the program, but it does not see the joystick as a controlling device. As I don'y play games that often its no longer worth the hassle of trying to get it sorted! Its a shame that microsoft haven't included full backwards compatability for thier own software within vista.
If anyone does find the answer I would be interested to see what it is but for now will have to look at alternative stress relief.
Thanks
Simon
