I have a Dell laptop and recently had the hard drive replaced due to damage. I have been reinstalling my programs etc. over the past month. I have installed all the latest service packs and believe they installed successfully as I have not received "failed" messages. I am back at home and am trying to reinstall my Canon Imageclass D680. I had no problems installing this computer on the old hard drive, but I have been attempting this for the past two days, have looked at several troubleshooting threads and cannot find what must be a simple solution.

The printer is not listed so tried using windows update, to no avail.
I downloaded the driver for the printer from Canon's website and installed. It installed from my desktop, but did not print a test page. I removed the printer and the program with add/remove programs... tried reinstalling... kept getting the sub spooler error... removed again, etc.-- in the end expanded the zip file in c:/dell/drivers/imageCLASS_D680_PrtDriverV110WinVista_EN

I have seemed to have solved the sub spooler error.

I finally successfully installed the driver last night BUT it will not print a test page, so I guess not. The printer appears in the list, but is listed as offline when it is not. I am using a USB connection, not wireless.

I ran DriverCure and it doesn't pick it up.

    Hello A R M,

Thank you for posting.  I would like for you to try this.  Uninstall the printer drivers.  Go to the Canon website and download the Vista drivers and save them to your desktop, or any location on your system you’d like, just make sure you can locate the file.  After the download is complete go to the exe file and right click on it and select Run as Administrator.  After researching your printer on the Canon website it is critical that the printer be setup with admin rights.  This may be what is holding you up.  Let us know if this gets it installed and up and running.

    Thanks,

    Jack

I knew it was something simple. Odd though, the Run as Administrator didn't visibly change anything in terms of the process. I was relieved when my test page printed.

    Thanks Jack.
