Vista Home Professional logging-on / screensaver problem.
- Hi.
For a little while now my laptop, which is about a year and a half old, has been acting up. When it is turned on, and the user logon page appears, the keyboard (I bought a USB plug and play keyboard to see if it helped, it didn't) accepts only the 'm' and backspace key - the former triggering as a return strong, and and latter as some function other than as a backspace. I have found, however, the way to make it work is to wait for the screensaver to activate. My questions are these:
- Does anyone have any ideas about how to solve the root problem?
- Does anyone know the 'magic formula' for triggering screensaver mode on Vista Home Premium whilst still at the user login page.- DéplacéJohnD - Support EngineerModérateursamedi 4 juillet 2009 20:24 (From:Programs)

Hi CosmicRay2,
Thank you for posting on the forums.
Quick question, did it use to work before? Any recent changes to your system prior to the issues you’re having right now? Could you please clarify on the “m” and “backspace” key problem that you’re having? Are you trying to trigger the screensaver on or off by pressing those keys?
I would suggest setting your screensaver to 1min if you need it to come on right away. You can give that a try or try restoring your system to a date prior to the issues you’re having. You can try this article as well.
How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

Best of luck.
