I keep getting an error message 0x8000106ba.  I have gone and done sfc/scannow.  I get the following: found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included inCBS.Log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.log.for example
    C:\windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log
    windows\system32>
What does this mean and how do I fix it?  I am a novice at this.
I am using Vista Basic, with FIOS.

    Hello Bettyj,

Thank you for posting.  Is this the complete error message?  Have you checked the logs to find out which application is failing to initialize?  Are you having an issues with Windows Defender that are associated with this error message?  Error code 0x8000106ba is a “failed to initialize” error and we really need to know what is not initializing.  The fact that you are getting corrupted file errors that cannot be repaired from the sfc scan is concerning me.  Usually when this happens we are have to perform a repair installation of Vista.  We can give you the instructions on how to do this but before we take that rather large step I’d like to know the application that is failing to start.  If you could let us know this information it is possible that we can correct this without having to do the repair installation.  Please have a look at the log and let us know in your reply.

    Thanks,

    Jack

I am getting the same error code.  How do I check the LOG to see what is not initializing?

    Jack,
I'm getting the same error code.  The dialogue box is labeled Windows Defender.  When I went through the the help and support menus Windows Defender would not start.  Instead, the same warning box pops up every time I try to open Windows Defender.  Is there a fixaside from disabling Windows Defender?
