I just tried to download Vista service pack 1 onto my compter, it went through all the motions and now my computer is nothing but a black screen.

Quite Angry about this, Before I attempted to install this pack, my computer was working perfectly. Now it looks as though my entire system has been destroyed, and when I try to contact Microsoft, it looks as though I have to pay $72 Australian, just to get them to speak to me. Hardly seems fair, it was their pack that crashed my system. Anybody have any idea of what to do to either restore my system (without using reboot disks), or does anyone know how I can contact Microsoft without paying (since this is not a problem from my side). Any suggestions would be appreciated. In regard to what happened, it went through the entire process of installing the service pack, but when it shut down for the last time, the computer started up with a very simple beep and then nothing, blank screen, no warning, no prompt, nothing.

I have run Canon MF4150 on Vista 32 without any problems for more than a year - until last week's Windows Update. Integrated printer still works fine. But when I try to use the scanner, I get the message from MF Toolbox that there is no supported scanner installed. System restore puts everything back to normal, and there is no updated driver available. Can't do a system restore every day, and I don't want to turn off Windows Update. Any ideas please?

I have Windows XP and i was trying to play a dvd using it and it says I need a compatible dvd decoder installed. Where would I find a compatible decoder for the dvd for windows player?

Bought computer and received win7 upgrade disk. the computer crashed took back to store they couldnt repair it but replaced it with another brand. I asked them if i should return the upgrade disk to OEM or to them and they said no it was mine to use. So can it be used on another brand pc?

I'm running Windows 7 and noticed that Windows Updates has not been running. The settings are set for update everyday. When I went to update manually it returned a WindowsUpdate_80070017 error. MSFT site was of no help. Any recomendations?

Windows Update on my computer has the options grayed out. I want to turn off Automatic Updates, but there is no option to do so. I am the only administrator on my computer, so I am not sure how this happened. I tried creating an additional (administrative) user on my computer to see if an additional user would have the same problem, and it does. It's been like this for a few weeks, and I have since upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and the problem remains.

Since Georgia is the only country in the area NOT to participate in daylight savings time, I have to choose one zone while everyone else is on DST and a different zone when everyone else goes off. It should be a simple fix to get the time right! Tbilisi time is GMT +0400. To whom do I write to get this fixed?

Tbilisi, Georgia = GMT +0400. Windows shows it as GMT +0300.

I turned on my computer, it paused for an update, but when it was completed, my desktop was changed, I lost all my pictures files, all emails, even the connections, my desktop files, and all my internet exporer settings and favourites. I use the ops norm Windows Update weekly. In OCT 2009 a normal update was listed along with others. All but this one loaded and will not load since that posting:

When I used windows update after restore update history was gone although I did find updates in installed updates I just wonder if anything is wrong and if all my updates are in place and why did it do that AND, CAN I GET IT BACK.?.?.?. Everything seems to work okay....../

It will never tell me the name of the update or what it is. This has happened with every update the last two weeks. Today it tells me I've got 3 more updates ready, but there is still not possible to find any info about it.

I am running Office 2003 on my new Windows 7 Machine and when I try to download 3 updates I get this error message. " WindowsUpdate_80070643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" The three updates are Office 2003 updates. I found a website that suggested the Ofiice OSE.EXE file may be corrupt and need to be replaced form CD. I tried this but Win will not let me copy or paste new file. Says I need administrator privileges to do this. I AM the administrator. Tried several microsoft sugg. as well Love my new machine and Win7 so far! Except f0r this hiccup. Please help!!! My not be a big deal but I am a freak when it comes to everything running correctly.

I downloaded the latest security update from windows as the automatic prompt directed me to as usual. As my habit I selected custom install and looked at what it said. 2 updates I don't remember, the first one was something about xml repeatedly calling http page or something when a known condition exists or whatever. After they installed the computer restarted itself AND NEVER CAME BACK ON!!!! The screen doesn't even come on, the pc isn't putting anything out to the screen the processor light just blinks twice every so often nothing I've done will do anything, hard resets unplugging it unplugging my modem how can I fix something when the screen doesnt work? I had to drive at 2am to a hotel to use their internet to post this. WTF! So what am I supposed to do. Can't call the number on the pc unit it says my mobile number is restricted, EVEN THE HOUSE PHONE, HOW CONVENIENT that customer service isn't available when microsoft wrecks my computer. I can't do homework or regular work. WHAT DO I DO?!

You will forgive my attitude as 3am isn't conducive to this kind of BS! I'd appreciate some kind of response that actually works rather than Is your computer plugged in or enter the code even though you have already clearly stated the screen doesn't have information coming from the unit.

Hi Guys,

I'm currently running Windows Vista Premium Home 64-Bit. This all started when with me updating my iTune recently and ever since then it's been one headache after another. Basically, when I try to install iTune, it says I need to install Apple Application Support first, and when I do this, I get the following message:

"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80,CRT,Version......" and it goes on.

On top of that, I also tried installing Vista SP 2 recently but my Window's Update is also giving me quite a pain. I can't get the update because when I try, it says error code 80070242 - Windows Update has encounted an unknown error.

Reading all the .Net complaints on this forum gives me one gigantic headache. First of all, these .Net frameworks seem to be a necessity in order to view/surf the web. I never did anything to alter my .Net frame work, and actually didn't even know it existed until one day, I started getting errors along with my MS automatic updates. Would this not indicate that MS has created software that has a flaw in it? Seeing as how I never did a thing in the world to alter this function in my pc. Disgusted that the expectation is that we consumers need to clean up MS' corrupted software. I think a more appropriate expectation would be that MS needs to fix their own corrupted software, and while your at it, have an auto-update tool that fixes it for us at the same time security updates are downloaded. I don't have the time or patience to fix problems like this that I had no part in creating. If you have an MS representative in my community, I would like them to come out and see my PC and fix this for me. I have continually tried to use all of the steps advised, to no avail. They all FAIL. Something needs to be done about this, otherwise this is the equivalent of fringing on being reported to the BBB in reguards to offering a reasonable solution to a problem that exists with MS products not delivering the intended service to the consumer. Not only is the software corrupt, but it uses a ton of memory and has degraded the functions of everyday use of my PC.

Dell XPS420, 4MB RAM, two 1GB WD HD, Windows Vista Home Premium, updated with all important updates from Microsoft.

When I tried to install the latest updates (Nov. 24, 2009) by using the Installs Updates and Shuts Down Your Computer, Vista got as far as "Shutting Down", but won't go any further--the circle icon is spinning on the teal screen (or whatever color that is), and there's some HD activity, but that's all. Vista (and PC itself) had been working fine up until this point.

I bought the Windows Vista Ultimate boxed product in July '09, I am supposed to be able to upgrade to W7 for shipping of $9.99, I have gone through the process 3 times online only to get to the end where you enter your credit card info and confirm billing address, I still get ERROR cannot process order at this time, and NOTHING ELSE! I've called Microsoft only to get pawned off to another department who barely spoke english and then gave me the number to a "local" office 2.5 hours away - and when I called they don't even sound professional, I had to leave a message for a company that did not even say it was Microsoft! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Microsoft makes EVERYTHING more difficult, I paid $342.00 with tax for Vista Ultimate only to jump through flaming hoops to get the W7 free upgrade I was promised.

Give me a break here. Please tell me how I go about getting the upgrade since the website doesn't even work, and calling does nothing for me.

Windows update shows an update for the nvidia graphics driver, it shows an older driver a 18x.xx instead of the newer 19x.xx. I had the latest installed 191.07 at the time and when the update finished and rebooted it had the older driver and the colors were all wrong. Could someone fix this? Or is it something on my end? It has been a week, almost two now and have not found how to go back to the latest driver. Unless of course I do a manual installation of the latest driver which I'm about to try. The description shows that it was published in 11/11 but says that it was released on June.

I've had this Vaio laptop with MS Vista Home Premium for over a year and recently, my auto update keeps telling me I need this important update on my machine. It tries to update my laptop but continues to fail. It's been trying to update this particular file now for a month. I tried to do it manually and that fails too; however, it won't go away. It also generates a lot of error report messages and uses up space on my hard drive which I have to clean out every week.

I use a Sony Vaio laptop with MS Vista Home Premium that I've had over a year without any problems. It's a VGN-AR320E, if that means anything.

Please help.

I've downloaded the service pack instead of getting the update. While installing the service pack I get the following error box:

Buffer Overrun detected. Program....ckard\TouchSmart\Media\Kernel\CLML\CCMLsvc.exe

...a buffer overrun has been detected and the this program (the service pack 2 install) must be terminated.

This is a Hewlett Packard with Vista 64 Home Premium 6MB, AMD Quard Core 9550 2.2

I have THREE issues that MAY all be linked togther......what do you think??

[I am running Windows 7 Ultimate(free upgrade from Dell w/purchase of PC)on a Dell XPS435 64 bit PC]
I upgraded from Vista approx. 3 weeks ago.

#1 - Two weeks ago, I had an issue with installing Nero/LiquidTV-TiVo to my PC...(this is also when the problem started).
To get the "Nero" thing figured out, I took the advice from someone on Nero's Forum/Blog. The Person provided a lenghty explaination on how to remove LiquidTV completely by deleting files from the Registry. . . . I really don't know what I'm doing in the Registry, but whatever I did helped my Nero issue, but I also couldn't tell you WHAT I deleted OR if I may have deleted any wrong subfolders or whatnot!.....the next time I started my PC, is when the NEW ISSUE came up.

#2 - Upon my next BOOT, Windows Update found an IMPORTANT Update:

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430)

....and it fails everytime it tries to install saying this:

Windows Update - Failed

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

"Get Help With This Error" provides little/No help...but it says this:
"WindowsUpdate_00000643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

From all the searches I've done, the problem seems to be with Microsoft .NET Framework....and all the solutions I found talked about, " UNINSTALL ALL .NET FRAMEWORK & REINSTALL THEM " . . . . . . I tried, and there are no .NET Frameworks listed in Add/Remove, and when I press "VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES"....on my PC it says, "No Updates are Installed on this Computer".......what the ____?

#3 - Today I figured that I'd just pop the WINDOWS 7 Install Disc in and do a Repair/Upgrade.....It won't Upgrade.
It cycles most of the way through, then it STOPS and says this:

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task,(it only lists ONE task), and then restart the upgrade to continue.

Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing.

Restarting doesn't help. Tried it 3 times and it ends up doing the same thing.
Is it possible that I deleted something out of the Registry that day and that is what is causing all of this?
If so, is there a way to fix it WITHOUT doing a fresh install of Windows 7??
OR.......whatever else may be wrong....PLEASE HELP!

(And please note: I am a college freshman majoring in Computer Science...but I just started last semester, so I don't know everything I should...yet. - Although, I SHOULD'VE known better than to mess with the Registry!! My bad.)

Windows Update Causes Startup Repair - which fails - TOUGH QUESTION

Every time I run Windows Update and install an update, the system restarts and runs startup repair - which always fails.

This is consistent and repeatable. I spent hours trying to fix this, as repair and system restore do nothing to help.

I can boot to safe mode. If I disable all my USB controllers and restart, it will boot fine. I can then reenable USB and it works fine. I can reboot my system and use it as normal. There are no problems until another Windows Update comes out.

If I install 1 or 10, the same thing happens: startup repair, which fails.

For reference, I've done this about 20 times now. I try a different thing every time with individual WIndows Updates (one at a time). I isolated USB by disabling everything I could in device manager and it booted fine. I then enabled one thing at a time, did an update and until I enabled USB, windows update worked nicely.

This is obviously not a hardware problem because I am able to enable all the hardware and use it fine. The only catalyst is Windows Update: software.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Automatic updates downloaded last night (25.11.9) and my computer has rebooted. BUT the configuration of these new updates is not occuring. The screen simply says
Configuring updates: Stage 1 of 3 - 0% complete.
Do not turn off your computer.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?
