- Same issue here, but Vista Business x86. Windows Update displays available updates but any attempt to download results in error 8007002.
I followed the above instructions, including running the resolution batch file. Unfortunately the issue persists. - Ok,
I have a windows Vista Business (Dell XPS M1530), I too have followed the above recommendations and continue to the Windows Update error 80070002 (File Not found), has any one resolved this issue?

- Hello,
Started investigating again the morning with Dell Support... Recomendation was and is to re-Image to factory defaults. It is now 12:45 PM (PST) been at it since 6:30 AM. Re-Image was smoth, hassel is reloading and configuring all the apps. So far it is working (as I knock on wood).
Good Luck. - True or not - I understand that yu can re-install Vista over an existing vista instalation - so by clearing the problem. To do this though - youhave to uninstall all the updates as the disk won't re-install over a more uptodate instalation. Does any one know this is true? It seems a simple way out!!
- I'm sorry, but I have a hard time seeing having to reinstall / reimage as a 'simple' solution. Perhaps its only me, but I tire of OS reinstalls as being a primary resolution when things muck up.
Hello,
Simple? Not true as far as installing the apps, True as far as re-image goes. Re-Image took ~ 30 min, a day later I am still installing apps, checking updates after each so far it is working without issues.
Should we all have to re-image? Seems a bit drastic
ChiefDND - have fun!- I would have to agree with the previous responses. If the standard procedure given by the Vista operating system does not work then reinstall / reimage the computer back to factory defaults is the only way fix the recurring 80070002 updater error.
But I did not get this answer from Microsoft. When I called Microsoft support about my recurring 80070002 problem their Customer Service wanted dme to pay $65 to have a Microsolft Tech Support person to come look at my system. They wouldn't even let me talk to a Tech Support person over the phone. I politely told them to stick it & that I'd try to solve the problem through the user community.
Kudos for user community. Remage / reinstalling solved the 80070002 problem. Thumbs way down for Microsolft Support who won't help you unless you throw money their way.
