AnswerError code 80070057 when trying to update

I have the same problem Joe980 wrote about (not being able to update and getting the error code 80070057).  I followed all of the steps given by Martin (support engineer) on April 2.

When I got to Step 5, the results showed "Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."  I continued through Step 6.  At Step 8 I was to see folders on my desktop named "SFCRESULTS.TXT" (I see this but without the ".TXT" and the folder is empty) and CHECKSUR.LOG (again, I see this minus the ".LOG")  The following are the contents of that folder:
    Checking System Update Readiness.
    Version 6.0.6001.22275
    2009-07-04 11:17

    Checking Deployment Packages

    Checking Package Manifests and catalogs.

    Checking package watchlist.

    Checking component watchlist.

    Checking packages.

    Checking component store

    Checking SMI Store
    Summary:
    Milliseconds: 1560510
     No errors detected

I also have a folder that was copied to my desktop named "CBS".  The contents are extensive and, whenever I copy and paste it here, my computer freezes.

    Can you help me, please?

    Thank you, Jan
