"over 22 million people have had this problem..."

    Source of that statistic, please?

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows Vista, but only for Service Pack 2 (SP2). This support for Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is valid until November 26, 2009. Availability of chat or e-mail support differs depending on your geographic location. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?prid=13014&gprid=582034 & select appropriate category (i.e., Download issue; Installation issue; Issues after you install a service pack).

My conservative figure of 22 million comes after a google search entitled 'Vista Sp2 problems' which had over 28 million hits. 'Problems with vista Sp2' 22 million hits and the list goes on. My point being that a company like Microsoft with all its resources and expertise should never allow an update to be sent out when it, at Microsoft's own admission, has some glitches. They should think a little bit harder about the average literacy of computer users and the problems that their glitches create. The majority of computer users have only average computer skills yet most IT companies, not only Microsoft, cater for the advanced user. Before I purchased my latest computer I had a play around with an Apple computer which was very user friendly. The only reason I picked the Windows/Microsoft format again was the notable difference with regards to the availability of software. With all the problems this average user has had to deal with with this and my last computer, I think Apple may be my choice next time around. Unless of course Windows/Microsoft change there tactics and look after the majority. 'What about Windows 7?' I hear someone say. I've used it twice on a friends machine. My unqualified opinion is that it doesn't deliver good value for money to the average user. It is however worthy of a downloaded update to replace Vista.

    Thanks

P.S. Before anyone calls me stupid or an idiot. Remember I said I'm an Average User with unqualified Opinions. I like to fix problems with the press of a button, simple. Isn't that what computers were created for, to make life simple...! Oh and I fixed the problem after a couple of hours playing around on my own.
