Windows 7 does not update Office
- I moved from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. I reinstalled Office 2007, and other than downloading SP2, Windows 7 has not added Office to it's update catalog. You can't go to Windows Update, or Office Update, so how does it get added to automatically update?
1 person got this answerI do too

- Tonight a guy from Escalations called me. Seems my nasty email back to them finally perked someone's attention. I was told I should not have been asked for a CC number at all, and to ask for a supervisor next time this happens, and as I was told "Be diligent" about it. Apparently it is a bug in Office, that happens infrequently. I might try a reinstall later in the week, but will wait and see if how the other 7 PC's stay running in teh house. I finally found a work around for the misterious dying network connections during heavy usage. I had to assign static IP's to keep the network running. This only affects the Windows 7 PC's.

- Hi dale_001 ,
You may have to first try and reset Windows Update Components since you unable install the updates itself.

- I ran the tool, still does not update. I opened a web incident on it.
I am not a happy camper to say the least. After waiting for 5 days and no response to the web incident, which states they will respond within 24 hours, I called. 3 hours with Office Support, who bounces me to Windows 7 Support and I get a new ticket for a Windows 7 issue. After 1 1/2 hours, I am told I don't need any updates. I asked why all the other Windows 7 PC's in the house have 22 updates to Office, and was told "You don't need them".
I then went through the list of Security Updates and asked why my Office doesn't need them yet all the others in the world do according to the KB's for them. I am then told it is my confoguration, so I asked why there are 3 PC's with the same hardware, and the same exact software on them, and the other 2 update as they should, then this one should update as they only difference in the installs was the Activation key was changed.
After another 2 hours, I am told to disable my Anti-Virus for 3 days and if it still does not work after the 3 days to call back and tell them it isn't working. I asked him what happens if I infect my network or get a virus, who is going to clean it up. He told me I would have to call my Anti-Virus Provider, the same one which will probably ask why I disabled it. My AV is Avast which is MS Certified for Windows 7. Guess what they will tell me, go back to MS who told you to disable it.
Support is lacking, and IMHO not worth calling. Sorry for the rage, but give me a break, nothing but excuses, and IMHO they don't know what the problem is, they are hoping I won't call back. I definately would not recommend anyone call them and waste their time or money. Hopefully someone here can help, I dread the thought of even calling back in 3 days, and also dread the thought of getting of a virus and having to clean it up.Just finished with my AV Support folks, guess what. According to them they do not block any MS Updates, and to be certified with Windows 7, MS has certified it does not interfere with it. They also told me under no circumstances should I have turned it off. I am forwarding the incident to the AV folks who will hopefully get someone in MS who knows what they are doing.
To add to this, I received this email from MS Support:
"Based on our last conversation it appears that this service request is resolved and ready to be archived. If this is not correct or if you are not happy with the support we’ve provided please let us know as soon as possible. My goal is to ensure that your experience with Microsoft Windows Technical Support leaves you pleased with our products and services."The last conversation I remembered was to call back in 3 days, at no time did the word "resolved" come out of my mouth or theirs. Wonder why folks have a bad taste with MS Products - here is a prime example, a customer issue not resolved with one of their products, the blame it on something else, and the closing of an unresolved issue, without any stating at any time it was resolved, and a waste of 6 hours on the phone of my life I will never get back.
MS did a wonderful job really messing things up. Booted the PC this morning and none of the user accounts will login. I used the Administrator account to map a drive to it and noticed all of the permissions have a ? by the user GUID. Since the PC won't back itself up due to the network routing dieing (A common problem from reading the forums) when under heavy usage, I can't restore from a backup as none of them are good. MS Support will help me for a charge? Who are they kidding, they messed with the registry, I watched them delete some keys while they were remoted in, and now they want to charge me to fix what they did? I decided not to do a system recovery, and decided to install all non-MS OS and applications. Maybe one day MS will get it together. I realize it was just 1 person in support, but the folks that are touted as the ones that know what tey are doing took an issue and made it worse, and now want to charge to fix the mess they created. Not good for customer service. Windows 7 was suppose to fix the perception MS created with Vista, but I have bought every OS since DOS, but will not any longer. MS lost a 20 year customer today due to their inability to provide support, and inability to clean up their mess.

I checked, there was no tick box to tick, never hurts to ask. On the other installs I remembered it asked me if I wanted to receive updates the first time I started Word, this one PC did not for some reason. I am running Ubuntu and Open Office for now, maybe when the bugs are worked out, or I calm down I might try and reinstall, but I now know I cannot count on MS for support. It is the first time I have ever called them in 20 years, so maybe I was lucky enough to get a one off Tech, but I did loose data. I was rather upset at the whole ordeal, mainly that they want $$$ to fix something they did. If I did it, I had it coming, but MS did, so they should have stepped up to the plate and at least tried at no charge. No apology, just Credit Card Number please. I look at it this way, if you buy something and it has a minor issue, and during the repair the Company making the repair renders it unusable, they shouldn't charge you to make it usable again. I even asked when they remoted in if they should back up the registry or any files. The Tech, said "I do this all the time". Let's hope he doesn't do it all the time.- Tonight a guy from Escalations called me. Seems my nasty email back to them finally perked someone's attention.
