    Hi Medimorph ,

Good to know that you have obtained a partial resolution. By the way, Microsoft has not stopped updating the RSS feeds. The issues may be with the settings. Please try to unsubscribe and subscribe back. I would recommend you to observe the changes if any since it's working now.

If it stops working again you can take a look at the following knowledge base article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/926447

Let us know how that works out for you.

    Thank you.

    Hello Medimorph,

I hope you are doing good. I appreciate your work on the issue. However, I am sorry that it did not work.
Here are the few steps which you can try:

    > Try exporting all feeds.

    > Clearing RSS cache.

    > And then re-importing all feeds.

You can following refr the below link:

     http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/cebbdc80-5674-41b3-a6ff-181b9e2164ab1033.mspx

Apart from that ensure that the Task Scheduler service is running by going to start > run and typing services.msc.

You can also try performing a system restore. Please refer the below link:

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi Savan H,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Task scheduler seems to be running properly on my computer.

I tried your suggested method for exporting the RSS Feed settings in IE8 as indicated in the first linked article.  After exporting the .opml file, I believe I cleared the cache in IE8 (Tools Menu | Internet Options | Delete Button (Browsing History) | Temporary Internet Files Checkbox | Delete Button ), and importing the Feed settings from the file I created.  My RSS Feed Gadget has only the originally configured Microsoft Feeds (Microsoft at Home, Microsoft at Work and MSNBC News).  Interestingly, only the MSNBC News feed brought in anything recent -- the other two feeds most recent entries are from July 6 2009 at 12:00:00AM (all their headlines had the same posting time though the date was different).  Since following the steps to refresh the feeds, my gadget is showing 82 headlines (instead of 100) and the date range is from Jul 20 2009 to Sep 18 2008!

As you can imagine, I am not inclined to do a System Restore at this point as other Vista updates have been applied to the OS on my computer since the IE8 update was applied.  I'm even less inclined to rebuild my computer!

Though I do not understand the mechanism it seems that since the RSS Feed Gadget appears to be getting its feeds via IE8, I believe that IE8 may be the culprit.

    Thanks.

    Hi again,

I think I may have found a partial solution to the issue I presented above.

I deleted all the feeds that were originally installed with the Vista RSS Gadget and replaced them with new ones.  I've set the update interval to 15 minutes and ... it seems to be working!  Well, at least, it updated the headlines one time.  I'll have to watch the gadget for a bit to see for certain.

What led me to this was to go to the source of my feeds and review those pages.  It seems they haven't been updated since Jul 6 2009 either!  Did Microsoft stop updating the Microsoft at Home and the Microsoft at Work RSS feeds?  It certainly seems so.  And, at MSNBC, I can't find the "MSNBC News" feed at all so I replaced it with three other feeds from the MSNBC site.  Right now I have 72 headlines that all seem to be current with the headlines at the feed sites.

Maybe it wasn't IE8's fault after all...

    Thanks.
