Windows Live Labs - Thumbtack
Windows Live Labs - Thumbtack
- I appreciate this isn't the ideal forum for this question, but it does appear to the closest since it involves Windows Live Labs and Thumbtack.
Can someone please advise why the webiste has been down for so long? The main Live Labs website seems to indicate that Thumbtack is still active.....Hopefully someone in the 'know' can get a response from a colleague and reply!
Thanks

- I know I am off topic but that's because these forums are selective and don't cover all the necessary topics, whether for Live, LiveLabs, MSN or MS Research sites. Someone's organisational structure is too complicated for their own good when no-one seems to know what is happening, sites are partially closed, no information is provided and users are left hanging. Very unprofessional in my book.
In any event, since no-one on a MS hosted site seems to know what was happening, and there were no contact details on the LiveLabs site itself and MS Customer Service simply pointed me towards MSN Contact pages (which as far as I could determine were all FAQ's with no actual contact info) I contacted Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet and she very helpfully did some digging and posted an article here:

I was not getting at you, I appreciate you don't work for MS and apologise if you think that I was being criticval of you and your efforts. I just figured you wouldn't be the lone voice and that someone who actually worked for MS could find out and post a reply. Obviously not.- Marked As Answer byMartin Joyce Tuesday, November 03, 2009 10:33 PM

Someone else asked about that recently and I poked around and couldn't find any contact information. Since it is a "labs" project, that means that it isn't a released product and is in "incubation." I guess you could call it a preview of something that may or may not be released in the future. Since the site isn't accessible, but no messages are posted about this fact, I have to assume that it is either being worked on or has been abandoned.

- The Live Labs web site seems to be clearly indicating that the Thumbtack trial is still active with a 'Try It' link, and there is no contact info for any of the Live Labs projects. I am surprised a company of MS's standing is not a bit more professional about these things.
A definitive response, rather than an assumption, would be much appreciated. - I can't give you an answer and you're off topic for this forum, as you already know. I don't work for Microsoft and this is a community forum - meaning peer to peer support.
Since Live Labs is associated with Microsoft Research, perhaps you can contact them through there:

- I didn't take it personally. :-) And, I was frustrated by the lack of contact information and the fact that the server clearly appears to be down for some time now. And, yes, the Microsot forums are as confusing to navigate as Microsoft itself. They have multiple platforms and many services and products are not represented. In fact, this forum's name is kind of misleading and I don't really know what is meant by "devices" in the title. The service/product is Windows Live Sync. There are no devices involved in this, except for PCs. There is another beta service, Live Mesh, that we believe will merge with Live Sync that does sync with Windows Mobile devices, but it has its own forums. Very confusing. Microsoft representation in these forums is very, very scarce. Support techs are supposed to be monitoring and manning the Windows Live forums on Answers, but that seems to be quite sporadic.
Kudos to MaryJo for being able to follow up on this and thanks for your efforts, too.
