I upgraded to the RC of Win7 and everything went beautifully.  Even stressed the install by "having" a 4 year old turn off the machine in the middle!! :-)  When I got to the end, I was checking out how stuff was working and went into Media Center.  When trying to play live TV, I get a message that it can't find the tuner card.  No update for the driver thru WU.  Removed the device from Manage and it found it and reinstalled with the driver that was originally there.

In Device Manager it's listed as "Hauppauge Win TV PVR PCI II (26xxx)".
    Driver Provider - Hauppauge
    Driver Date - 2/6/2007
    Driver Version - 2.0.48.25037

Win7 seems to recognize this device perfectly, but no TV.

    Hi jrames,

Thanks for using the Answers Forum.

Is this an upgrade from XP?
I visited the Hauppauge website and I located the device under the "Legacy" devices.
I noticed that it supports up to XP.

The driver should be at least Vista compatible (in most cases) to work with Windows 7.

I suggest contacting Hauppauge to see if their supporting a driver for your device that will work with Windows 7.

Please let us know how this works out.

    jrames,

Another option for you is to acquire the XP drivers from Hauppauge's website and download the drivers for your TV tuner.
Then right click the driver .exe file and select properties. When the window opens click the compatibility tab.
click Run this program in compatibility for: and select Windows XP SP3, next click run this program as administrator, click OK. Run the installation and check the devices compatibility.

No, this box has been on Vista Ultimate since Vista Ultimate was out there.  I'm frankly not remembering if I got it OEM with XP Media Center or upgraded when Vista was released.  Never had any issues, so if it wasn't vista compatible, it never gave indications.  I'll check with Hauppauge, but will have to head back to my Vista image (got a full backup just prior to upgrade, so not a big deal).

Not sure why this Media Center which had been working perfectly on Vista Ultimate since it was released would need to go back to an XP driver?  The device is not giving me any indication of incompatibility.  Vista and Win7 recognize the device and it finds an appropriate driver and says it is working.  Media Center just doesn't recognize the device and says I don't have a TV Tuner.  Anyhow, I gave this a try and it didn't work.  I then removed the device and went thru the manual identification of the device, which Win7 seems to have drivers for as I navigated thru the devices to Hauppauge and found the card (26xxxx).  I chose it and the screen zipped at me and the machine shut down.  On reboot, it crashed and went thru another reboot cycle and another.  I then ran a repair wizard and it brought me back to life.

I'm going to bring this machine back to the Vista backup I have and go on with life.  I'll try this with another machine I have that has a newer Tuner card.

    Thanks for the advice.

I have the VERY same issue.  I upgrated from Windows Vista to Windows 7.  I have a Happague 1800 tuner that worked perfectly in Vista.  After the upgrade, the system does not recognize the tuner.  The error says there is not tuner installed.  However, the device control panel tells me the tuner is working working fine.

Media Center can't recognize the tuner.  I used the Windows device control to upgrade the tuner's drivers, but Media Center still cannot recognize that the tuner is installed.  How can we resolve this issue simply?

So this happened to me on the upgrade to the RC of Win7, but DID not have the problem with the upgrade from Vista to Win7 RTM.  I rolled back to Vista from the RC as I couldn't get it to work. The upgrade to Win7 RTM worked fine.  I subsequently decided to clean install.  I did experience an issue that it could not set up the cable box related to the IR blaster.  This was solved by using 2 IR blasters in the IR blaster device during configuration of Windows Media center.  After it setup, I removed 1 and all was good.

    Hi thewenz:

I am using the Hauppauge 1800 tuner without problem on both 32 and 64-bit versions of Win7. First thing is to check and make sure you have the cable attached to the Antenna input if you want to receive QAM channels over your cable line. If you have it connected correctly then I would suggest you try going to Device Manager and uninstall the tuner,  then turn off the PC and plug the tuner card into a different PCIe slot and boot up the PC.  Win7 should automatically install the correct drivers.  Then open Media Center and go thru the "set-up signal" process and see if it doesn't see the tuner again.  If not, then run Windows Update manually from the program menu as there is an update that should be offered.  If you get the update,  then run the "signal set-up" again and see if you have a "Qam tuner" listed.   Good luck.

EDIT:  I miss-stated the model number above.  I should have said PVR 150 NOT 1800.  AND it doesn't work on 64-bit windows or with 4 GBs + RAM.  The fix I stated above WILL work though.

I have the same card runnning fine under the released version of WIN7 after a clean install. I had nothing but trouble when I upgraded from Vista to WIN7. The machine was originally an XP Media Center which was upgraded to Vista Home Premium. The Clean install was faster, more straightforward and the machine has been rock solid with my Extenders. The Vista upgrade was always flukey with my extenders.  The drivers in WIN7 worked fine for me

I tried all of this and more. Notwithstanding all of the great and broad advice from Microsot (I am not being facetious here), I'm convinced that certain older Hauppaugue cards may just not be compatible with Windows 7.  Personally, I'm considering three alternatives: (a) Just buying a new tuner card, as they cost less than $100. (b) Doing a clean install, which would be alright, though my third in a year, but it's such a pain in the neck to sometimes have to call to get certain programs activated and does take time. Or, (c) Just letting it go and going into a different room to watch the news, probably the best course of action.

For what it's worth, my guess as to the reason from the problem are that there may have been a slight change in the Windows 7 final release.

Frankly, and again, this is not a criticism, none of this makes much sense to me, but I've come to learn that sometimes there just are no fixes. I've tried the following and posted this before:

I have a Hauppague WinTV 418 BDA Tuner Card in my computer. I ran Window 7 RC since the day it came out with no problems with the TV tuner, i.e. I could watch TV via Windows Media Center. After I did a fresh install with a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Media Center Setup gives me the message that it can't find the tuner. The tuner does show up in Device Manager as "working properly."

    I have done the following:

Spoken with Hauppague and installed the Windows 7 drivers
Spent nearly two hours on the phone with Microsoft (where the support was both professional and patient, by the way) and the tech remoted in, but couldn't find the problem.
Changed the cable from the card to the modem.
Changed the splitter to the modem.
Plugged the cable directly into the modem.
Removed the card from the Device Manager and reinstalled.

    Hi ennui37:

You said:  "Changed the cable from the card to the modem.
Changed the splitter to the modem.
Plugged the cable directly into the modem."

To connect the tv tuner to your cable service you do NOT go thru your modem.  You need to use a 2-way splitter on your coaxial cable and attach one of the resulting two cables to your tv tuner and the other cable to your internet modem.  Depending on your cable signal strength you may want/need to use a signal booster (such as Motorola offers) and use one output from that for your tv tuner and one for your internet modem.
I just tried the modem as a "last resort." It has been running on a splitter from the cable. The "In" line on the splitter comes from the cable outlet and splits to the modem (Cox digital phone) and the tuner card. I'm not sure about a "booster," as I didn't need one before with this setup. I'm getting to a point where I think the card may just have gone bad, but I've never had that happen before (save a motherboard years ago). Any other ideas.

    Hi again ennui37:
According to the Hauppauge website your tv tuner is a PCI tuner WinTV-HVR-1600 and is Windows 7 Media Center compatitible.  See:

       http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/windows7_product_list.html

The only thing I can see that might be causing your problem might be the fact that your model is a PCI and not PCIe.  I noticed that all the models listed under "older products" are PCI and there is a notation that those may not work with 4GBs of memory or more.  It doesn't say that about your model but I'm wondering if the use of 4GBs or more of RAM might also be causing a problem with the 1600 model as well.  You could try removing some RAM temporarily and see if the card then functions correctly.  At least then you might find out if the tuner card does work.

On the same webpage there is a link to Win7 drivers webpage which contains the following important message which also may be your problem:

    "Notes:
The Media Center products from Hauppauge (for example, the WinTV-HVR-1600 MCE board or MCE Kit or the WinTV-PVR-150 MCE-Kit) do not include an MPEG video decoder. If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or a Windows Media Center PC, it has come with a Microsoft certified Media Center MPEG decoder pre-installed. >>>>If you are building a Windows Media Center PC, please check with Microsoft for a list of certified MPEG decoders. YOU WILL NEED A MICROSOFT CERTIFIED MEDIA CENTER DECODER TO WATCH TV!<<<<"

If I am reading this right, pre-built PCs manufactured with Media Center will have the correct MPEG decoders pre-installed but that you need to install certified decoders if you build your own.  I thought that Windows 7 O.S. contained the needed decoders for tv tuners already and in fact the WinTV-PVR-150 they mention is currently functioning just fine on the PC I'm using right now with Win7 codecs from the O.S.  However,  this same PC also has a Hauppauge HVR-1800 PCIe tuner also and Win7 MPEG codecs are included in Win7 O.S. for that tuner and that may have enabled the codecs for the PCI tuner.  I moved the PVR-150 tuner from another PC and DID have trouble getting it recognized on the previous PC.  It was already installed when I clean installed Win7 HP 32-bit and it wasn't recognized as a tuner so in Device Manager, I uninstalled the device marked with a yellow bang,  turned off the PC and moved the tuner to a different PCI slot and re-started.  Lo and Behold.....Win7 recognized it and automatically went online and downloaded and installed the drivers.   It then worked fine.  I replaced it a few weeks later with a digital tuner and decided to put it in this PC with Win7 HP 64-bit and 4 GBs of RAM and it was immediately recognized and the drivers installed automatically. It seems to work fine even though I have 4GBs of RAM and Hauppauge says it won't work.

I don't know if there's any useful information here but you can see if there's anything useful LOL!

As far as getting a newer tv tuner....you might want to wait a  while because the cable companies are making some  major changes in  what clear QAM channels they will provide.  I've read rumors that they want to quit providing local over the air channels in clear QAM and have asked the government to allow them to do that.  They would then provide a box similar to the one people use to convert over the air digital channels to analog for old tv's only this one would be used to "un-encrypt" the then "encrypted" over the air channels that are currently tuned easily by digital TVs and digital computer tv tuners.   If this happens I plan to get one or more of the upcoming CETON cable card tuners.  See:

Same here, loaded all HAUPPAUGE updates nothing worked went to send them a help request their site said before sending, ensure Video & Sound cards where upto date I down loaded both updates and this allowed MCE to work for me only had to re-boot the 2nd time because after the first it said that the tuner was not approved for my area ( Canada) but after the 2nd re-boot everything worked.
    Hope this helps; Mike
