AnswerWeb Client Service causes long load time

As Windows Vista Business loads, it will stay on the "please wait" screen for 20+ minutes, then will load normally and run normally.

I went into System Configuration and through trial and error, found that I was able to eliminate the problem by unchecking the Web Client box in the  Services tab.  Now my load time is 2 minutes.

What is the Web Client service for?  Do I need to install a patch, or can I just leave it unchecked?

    Thank you
    Nick

    Hi NAMac,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Answers Community Forums.

Enables Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify Internet-based files. If this service is stopped, these functions will not be available. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. This service may also be responsible for clicking on hyperlinks embedded within applications, such as in email clients to open up a new window.

Let’s try doing a sfc scan. It's possible that you may have corrupted files.  To resolve this issue, use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe).   To do this, follow these steps:

    1.  Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
