PLEASE help i need to find a hidden firewall

i have a Toshiba laptop and here recently it started blocking certain websites. i tried turning the windows firewall off and even turned off my modem and symantec security but my Internet provider did a test and said there still is a firewall some where on my computer blocking stuff. please help to find this, its driving me nuts because we could get on those sites before and now we cant.

ive got a dell inspiron 1525 and i have windows vista 32bit. i dont know if i should use security essentials or avg antivirus. i also can use mcafee security suite. i just need some professional or experienced advice and would appreciate it if someone could help! thank you!

I basically keep getting the error that states "This pages requires a secure connection which includes server authentication. The certificate issuer for this site is untrusted or unknown. Do you wish to proceed?" I've seen other message boards about this, but my problem is that this error keeps popping up no matter what I am doing. Even if I am not connected to any web browsers or instant messaging clients! So I have no idea what to do, it just keeps popping up repeatedly, one after the other. Even if I have closed most programs that are running.

I am trying to create another user account and when I go to click the "manage another account" option it isn't even giving me an option to type in my administrative password. My mouse does change from an arrow to a hand option when I hover over it, but it isn't linking to the next option. I also cannot open "Change Your Account Name" "Change Your Account Type" "Turn User Account Control off and on" as well as my "Parental Control"

I have Vista ultimate. When I first bought this computer I signed myself on as admin. and my son on as standard. Now when I try to install, fix or remove certain features I get an error message that states "you do not have proper admin. rights. Please consult your SYSTEM admin. for help". I thought I was the SYSTEM admin. I am only the COMPUTER admin. Whats the difference and how can I change my status?

Somthing running constanly must be making it happen. The gadget Network Meter shows that it is evenly spaced.

I tried to download windos defender in my computer and it keeps telling me that it is in my computer but it is not there. I open control panel and it is not there.

Basically i want to be able to check what she is up to on her laptop. When she is on her laptop in her room doing homework i want to be able to check if she is actually doing homework. She keeps using MSN and facebook when she is supposed to be doing homework.
I am aware of ways to block access to these type of applications however that is not my objestive.
My objective is to check if she is actually doing what she is supposed to be doing.

I've been having this problem for quite a while now and it's really fustrating.I can't download anything without UAC (user account control) asking me to enter my administrator password .I know the it but,in the UAC dialog box ,i don't see where to enter it. I DJ with my laptop in clubs.
Now, when I am in the clubs, I want the laptop to start, with no anti-virus software, no backup software, etc, etc. In fact, I only want the bare minimum of drivers to start, together with the DJ Software I use.
This allows the computer to start faster, with no risk of any scans taking place etc. I will disable all networking, wifi, bluetooth etc, so that there are no connections.
Can I create a DJ profile that will only start with the bare minimum of these programs operating?

Okay so Im learning about SVCHOST and I just wanted to know is it normal that SVCHOST.exe is being used (or associated with) PolicyAgent? Does that mean that some outsider has control over my PC? Or is that just regular operating standards?

Windows Security Center cannot be turned on

When I go to Windows Security Center, it indicates the Security Center service is turned off. When I click on the "Turn on now" button, a Windows Security Center popup says "Security Center service cannot be started" What should I do.

Actually i want to restrict user using the Ease of Access button.I have tried for registry edit . Have done a lot googling. But cant find out any clue to disable this button in login screen.

External hard drive access denied - set by mistake!

Okay, so yesterday I was tinkering with some of the settings in the security tab of the properties of my external hard drive (WD Elements) in relation to another problem I had with it (to do with not being able to safely remove).

Anyway, the advice that I had found on some forum suggested that the solution might be to change the permissions but I ended up clicking on the wrong option and denying access to all users "everyone" and now I am unable to access anything on on the drive. Such a stupid thing to do!

I now get the message"G is not accessible. Access is deined." which makes sense I suppose as I have denied myself access! Also, I cannot simply go into the drive properties and change the permissions back as there is no longer a security tab.

I have tried system restore but that did not make any difference.

I have tried googling it but as it is a fairly unusual problem I haven't been able to find a solution.

I am guessing that there might be a way to regain access by typing some code in command prompt if I run as admin. but have no idea what.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone and thanks in advance to those kind-hearted people who will take their time to answer my humble question.

I have a Vista 64-bit box, I started playing with the permissions regarding User Access, now I can't figure out what to do to set it back to default, I can't share a folder, can't share my printer. I'm running this box as an FTP server but can't make it to function properly 'cause of the restrictions.

I guess my question would be: "Is there a way to reset the settings so that everything would be fresh off?"

I recently installed AVG 9 antivirus onto mu computer and as a result Windows Defender has been turned off. So everytime I log on or off, I have to manually start it up again.

Is there a way I can keep them both running and if so how do I do that.

Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium.
It had Norton Internet Security with long overdue subscription, and was replaced with Microsoft Security Essentials.

For some reason after each shutdown / hibernation, Windows Firewall gets disabled and I get Windows security notification.

During full scan Microsoft Security Essentials found "Trojan:Win32/Orsam!rts" in some game called Knight Online. Due to threat description and location of the infected file, I'm not quite sure whether it's a true or false detection. No further threat are found.

My daughter purchased a new laptop and was told to wait for me to get recovery disks and set up parental controls before getting on it. I told her it would be a couple of days. Her other computer was working, however, she didn't wait and proceeded to set herself up as administrator and toodle around on it before I knew what was happening. She was also on internet without permission. So I renamed a user that she had loaded for internet access at a place where she babysits, made a new password that was accepted and one that I wrote down. When I went to do something else later it wouldn't take the password. I also didn't know about making a password disk until after the fact. I can't do a recovery because it is admin only and it won't accept mine. Any ideas how to get around it and reset it?

I can log on to my laptop using standard user account. My problem is I can't change any security settings, tune up and download any program, because somehow the administrators password has been changed and forgotten and I don't have a password key flash drive. Please I need your help. I'm not knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot computer. Is there any way to recover or reset a new administrator password?

For tipical user it is restricted read and write access for parts of C drive like TEMP folder. there are some software that in some processes uses that folder how I can set full read and write access for one or more folders or whole C drive for standart user using UAC

I'm unable to get into my computer any further than the prompt for my Windows Vista password @ startup. I didn't change the password & my correct password isn't working. What the heck! On another computer I see how to create a password reset disk but, of course, that's of little consolation @ this point. I use Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2. I'm really in a jam here. I changed internet providers a few weeks back and ever since this message pops up'You are not currently logged into your computer as administrator. This installer requires that the user be logged in as administrator. Please log out and log back in as an administrator and then restart the installer.' I am logged in as the administrator. I contacted my internet provider and they said it was a problem with windows vista. I don't know much about these things and any help would be great!! Thanks

This morning I rebooted my computer and my Vista Security Center is indicating that I do not have a firewall or antivirus protection. I do use Norton AntiVirus 2008 which does contain a firewall, antivirus, and antispyware I rebooted just 2 days ago and did not get this message.

I notice that a message in the Vista Security Center under antivirus protection indicated that Norton Antivirus is on, put Vista Security center is not able to support the way the program is notifying Vista Security Center.

I do not believe it is a virus because I am able to run a Norton scan, a spybot S&D scan and a malwarebytes scan. Plus I am able to update all 3 of these products with the latest defs.

Is this a slight bug that just came up with the Vista Security Center? Will there be a patch?

I'am using the following 2 guides to help me with the process:

So far I have found that turning off the firewall completely allows me to stream music ok. However I don't want to have to do this each time I use my xbox. Also I don't want to set up media centre on my xbox. I just want to stream music on the simple player found on the menu when pressing the guide button.

Referring to those guides:

I have allowed all services on Mcafee except:

Mcrdsvc.exe
Mcxnettw.exe

I cannot find these on my computer!

I have looked in the c/windows/ehome folder as suggested but they are not there.

The other guide suggests some different applications - system is the only one I can't find (it doesn't mean anything to me). I have tried entering the ports into the firewall configuration to no avail.

Please help!

Using:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Mcafee Security Centre v 9.15
with Mcafee Personal Firewall 10.15
