Vista Error message 'the application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000142)
I have a problem with Microsoft Vista.
After say 12 hours of my computer being on i try to run an application, say Outlook. I get an error message come up saying 'the application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000142), click on to terminate the application. The only way i can fix this is to force a shutdown, by holding the off button. Then all is ok again for 12- 48 hours, then the same again. Please help.

- Hello Sonny Bhambri,
Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.
I would try the following KB article for Office Diagnostics and see if a repair will help with your issue.
KB 924611 - How to install and to repair 2007 Office features
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924611
If this does not help, then I would advice you to post in the Office Discussion group listed here.
Sincerely,
Marilyn

- Is this specific to Outlook or does it happen with other apps?
- Hi,
The message seems to come up when i try and run outlook BUT none of the other programs seem to work. If i try and open IE it just wont open. I cant shut down the computer via start so i then have to force a shutdown via the off button. When it restarts all is ok. I just remember not being able to do anything and having to force the shutdown. - by the way, sometimes it will let me restart via the start/ restart buttons but most of the time it just refuses to respond and i have to force the shutdown.
- The message only seems to come up when i try and run outlook. When it happens again i will test some other programs.
- In addition to the above info please note: This problem always occurs in the morning ie when it has just been on all night but has had zero interaction with myself ie no keystrokes, no mouse clicks or request for programs to run.
