Installer service not responding.
- Not sure when the installer service stopped working. Its been a couple of weeks though. I cannot install any updates from windows update service. It just says installer service could not be accessed or not responding. So basically anything that requires this service cant be installed. Oh yeah ran the SFC a lot of good that did it says there is a problem but cant fix. I know this is not a new issue so why cant I get it fixed?

Hi Bougie,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers!
“The Windows Installer service could not be accessed”
This problem may occur if the Windows Installer files are damaged or missing.
I would suggest you to check whether the Windows Installer Service is running in Services.msc window.
Click On start; In the Start search, type Services.msc and Hit Enter.
Right click on Windows Installer and click on Start ( Only if the Service has stopped).
Restart the computer and check if you get the error message.
Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer
a. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs.
b. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs, or you may briefly see an hourglass. After you run this command, the operation is complete.
c. Try your Windows Installer-based application again.
You can download the Latest version of the Windows Installer Version 4.5 from the link below

Hope this works.

- I am running vista premium 64 sp2 and I cant install any updates because the installer service cant be accessed. Can this service be reinstalled and if so how do I do it? It is very frustrating to have a new computer and have issues that are not easily fixed by the user.
