- 1. ) Here is a work-around :
Can you save the attchment to a folder of your choice and open it there ?
If yes, please write down the file type of your attachment. File type is at the end of the attchment name. i. e. .pps, .doc, .pdf etc.
Post the file type back, I might be able to give you a solution. Does it happen to just one file type attachment or all of them.
2.) Have you installed IE8 BEFORE this problem started ?
t-4-2 - If you dont have the program installed on your PC that was used to create the attachment you wont be able to open it.
What is the suffix of the attachment, ie somename.??? - Hello bigcat193,
Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
Open Set Program Access and Computer Defaults by clicking the Start button , clicking Default Programs, and then clicking Set program access and computer defaults. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
By default program settings you can Change Associated file type or protocol with programs, change auto play settings and set program access and custom defaults. Click on Change Associated file types and you will see a huge list of all extensions and program used to run them.
The options you set in Set Program Access and Computer Defaults apply to all users on your computer. To set defaults for specific users, see Change which programs Windows uses by default.
Please reply back and let us know if these suggestions resolved your issue or if you still need assistance. Others may benefit when you mark as answered.
Sincerely,
Marilyn
