If you encounter this error message upon starting a program, you may need to un-register and re-register one or more OCX's, and you must do so by running the Command prompt as Administrator!

        for COMCTL32.OCX :

        regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCTL32.OCX
        regsvr32 /i C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCTL32.OCX

"Note: You must run the command prompt as administrator. To run command prompt as administrator, hit the Start button (usually in lower left on your screen), in the Search box type 'command', the search will return a list of items, one of them being 'command prompt'. Right-click and select "Run as Administrator".

You could try downloading a copy of the corrupt or missing .ocx file. (Vista version) from the Internet, or copy it from another Vista machine and place it in the C:Windows\System32 folder.  You could also look at running the System File checking program.

    A) How can I determine whether my .ocx file is missing or corrupted...and if I find it to be OK, how can I find the file to which the .ocx is asociated?
    B)  Does Microsoft have a download of the .ocx file?  If so, where can I find it?

    I am running Vista SP2.

A lot of .ocx files are ActiveX controls,  I could only find 4 .ocx files in my System32 folder.  Some older third party programs might include such files when you install them.
