QuestionNetflix stopped playing in Windows Media Center

Up until today I had no problem watching streaming content from Netflix using the Windows Media Center (in Vista Home Premium). But now it stops on the red "Netflix" screen, the one where the content/license/buffering information is usually displayed. It's also running very slow to get to that point. The movie player from the Netflix website works fine, but not through the Media Center. Any help appreciated, and thanks

I'm experiencing the same problem. I recently installed Vista Home Premium to use MC on my HTPC. The Netflix Plugin installed and worked great for about 2 days but now stops at the Red Netflix screen. It doesn't appear try to download or even connect to the Netflix server. I have uninstalled / reinstalled Netflix plugin for MC and Silverlight. I've added www.netflix.com as a trusted site in IE. Netflix instant queue plays back just fine in IE8. Please let me know what other information I can provide to resolve this problem.

Yes.  Same problem.  This has worked fine for months, and even as recently as last night

Same problem here.  I contacted Netflix and they had me try a couple of things like Minimize and Maximize my MC.  Then they referred me to Microsoft.

    Same issue.  This bites.

Same issue. Netflix rep. didn't seem to know anything about it and referred me to Microsoft but I told her I found this forum in about half a second with a google search. This needs to be fixed, fast. Clearly there's a partnership and they should both be concerned. Netflix is so much nicer to view through WMC -- you can't get us hooked and take it away because of a technical gaff followed by bureaucratic indifference.
My laptop and my PC both run Vista Home Premium and have same problem.

I got the same response from Netflix; call MS. I am a partner and have had no luck with this. One has to assume there was an update but I rolled back the pc and nothing. It works in IE but not MC.
    I am using Vista Premium

I thought it might have been a result of one of the useless updates Microsoft automatically downloads to my computer (even though I have it set NOT to...that's another issue).  I backed up a few days and that did no good. I have just about reached the same conclusion that some of you have: it has something to do with the Netflix/Microsoft compact. As a Netflix subscriber this really irks me. I was watching much more streaming content than I was DVDs. Part of the package, I thought. Oh well, I can only hope it will be resolved soon, because I'll cancel my Netflix sub, on principle, if it's not.

I have to wonder if this has something to do with Playstation 3's getting into the game earlier this month...

As an update, This is for home premium for me. In my windows 7 machine I experience no issues. This seems specific to vista.
Can you post what OS you are using.
I tried to remove patches and that did no good, I uninstalled netflix and silverlight and re-installed and no good.
I have sys restore turned off so I cannot test rollback

I have Vista Ultimate, same problem.  It just started sometime in the last 24 hours (it worked fine on Friday morning).

I have Microsoft set to not apply updates, and haven't rebooted to apply any.  I suppose the Netflix plugin could have updated without any notification.

Not a huge deal for me, but very frustrating.  I didn't realize how much I used the streaming until it was gone.  :P

Same here.  Started about 2 days ago.  I've gone through the usual: uninstall, reinstall, etc. and it still doesnt work.  Just a red "Netflix" screen.  Would be nice if someone would step up.

    Hello
I use Vista Home Premium (not by choice, mind you...computer came pre-loaded).

At this point the red Netflix screen doesn't even come on. The instant queue list appears, and if I click on a title it will offer the PLAY option, but when I click on that I only get the blue screen with the little "thinking" icon in the center...I've waited for quite a while for it to "stop thinking", as it were, but no results.

I'm frustrated, too, because I only recently found out I could stream through my big screen television. I was enjoying it immensely. Then this? :(

Yes, I am having the same issue.  I was using the instant watch no problem last weekend and all of sudden it stopped working in the WMC last night.  I have Vista Premium.

It was working for me as well up until yseterday on Vista Home Premium.  Seems to have died right around the same time as the "Platform Update" was installed via WindowsUpdate.  Might just be coincidence.

Also, the Silverlight player plays netflix streams just fine under IE8 and Firefox, but is consistently broken under WMC, no matter how throroughly I scrub Silverlight or the Netflix plugin before reinstalling.  The only two results under WMC are the black screen and the red "Netflix" screen hangs.

Works fine on Windows 7 Media Center and in Vista on IE, but it doesn't work on Vista Media Center. This has been going on since last night. I don't have anything installed on my computer except MS updates.

I phoned Netflix a couple minutes ago, and the service representative told me that Netflix is aware of the problem, and that they are being told to Microsoft (866-234-6020). Of course, the service center is closed, and no one is taking any calls.

I am having the same issue as well.  I have two computers one with Vista Home Premium and one with Vista Ulitmate and neither is plugin is working now but was working Friday morning but stopped by Friday evening.

Hopefully they can resolve this, I liked being able to see it in full screen through WMC.  I know they originally had some issue with this on Windows 7 but seemed to have straightened it out for them.

To mei t looks like they broke netflix in vista to try to get people to upgrade to windows 7.

Why would it only stop working in vista?

Issue seems to be resolved. It would have been nice to have received some kind of heads up from Netflix and/or Microsoft as to what was going on.
