When I boot up in Vista the Windows Installer box comes up, but nothing installs. I cannot cancel or get rid of it. I try to load Task Manager but it won't come up., just the green box in the icon bar. It freezes out any attempt at Recovery or restore.

Please help

We would like to get a little more information to be able to better help you with the issue that you are having. Is Windows Vista logging in and then you get the Windows installer box? Does it mention what it is trying to install? How are you trying to get to Task Manager? Please answer these questions and provide any other information that you feel might be helpful so that we may better assist you. Thank you.

I would suggest trying to use these fixes

“Virus alert about the Win32/Conficker.B worm”

You have all the symptoms. You should be able to boot to Safe Mode with Command prompt to run the MRT

Hi Mark

When I look up Conflicker link none of the symptoms seem familiar. In answer to Shane, sometimes the installer box comes up and says something about Bluetooth software and disappears, I am not running any bluetooth device. other times it comes up and just stays there, cannot even cacel it out. machine is doing other strange things like if I go to swithch user, the one I switch to sometimes will not load.

I am thinking of doing the full HP recovery off the partition. Is this recommended?

Hi philber1,

Thank you for taking the time to post.

I do have a couple of questions for you.

1. When you do see the installer box, does it always say “Bluetooth”?

2. Do you only see this at startup?

Once you get into your Desktop, can you “work” around the installer box? If so please follow the steps below.

· Click the Start button on the desktop

· In the search field type msconfig and hit enter (if you are prompted for credentials, enter them or click allow)

· Once in System Configuration, select the Startup Tab

Once you are in the Startup Tab, please look through this list and see if you see anything that mentions Bluetooth and simple uncheck them and click apply and reboot and see if the installer box comes back. If you do find any Bluetooth, take note of them so we can see what they are. Removing the checkmark here will only prevent those item(s) from starting up, it will not uninstall them.

If you are unable to work while booted normally, then restart the computer and tap the “f8” key on the keyboard as your computer starts up and select “Safe Mode” at the Windows Boot Manager screen and do the above steps and restart the computer. After you restart, let the computer boot to your normal Desktop and see if that installer box is still coming up.

Any other information you can share with us please do; so we may better understand what is causing this.

Hey all,

I am needed a copy of the virus to analyse as I am currently working on a way to trace back to the source of the virus through the use of a counter measure I have designed for such a problem, if someone things that they can get me this virus base building blocks I will be able to analyse and find a way to trace it.

However, I am unsure where I can get this from does anyone knows where???? O also there may be away to analyse it try capturing an intake package and break it down in the process make sure it does not infect your computer place it on a virtual system contained, set your clock back to 19/03/09, from here test it through notepad, VB, Java, etc. If you are wishing to look for base commands to assist where it will target?

Hi...if ur problem has not solved... try this... download ccleaner a small software... every effective. install it. run ccleaner..... goto tools.....then look for various startup entries under startup. u would find some known and some unknown entries. try to delete unkhown entry( CAREFULLY) ..... re-boot ur system...... probably the problem should get solved.
