Why is puter slower?
- When I first got this emachine I had problems and through whatever check being made it had a Windows Experienced Index of 3.6 for performance. No nothing done to this machine other than updates it now has a performance level of 3.0. My games are slow to come up, like anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds and more. Response time when in other sites seems slower than ever. I've had it perform disc clean up and defrag quite a few times and nothing has sped anything.
I am on dial up and I know this slows things done, but computer reaction time is sometimes down right dreadful.
Is there anything I can eliminate that would speed things up? My server has me setup with AVG, SpyBot and Malwareby (takes 3 hours to run all). Puter has Defender. I don't use a 1/3 of the stuff I have. I don't use Word Pad, Power Point, Task launcher, Calendar, Meeting Space, Movie maker, CyberLink Power2go, CyberLink Label Print (might if I knew how to make it work), calculator, Tablet PC (whatever that is). I take pictures (Vista sucks here), visit sites, play the standard emachine games (chess, free space, etc). I copy notes and pictures - CX5000 scanner/printer.

"Optimize Windows Vista for better performance"Delete programs you never use
Many PC manufacturers pack their new computers with programs you didn’t order and might not want. These often include trial editions and limited edition versions of programs that software companies hope you will try, find useful, and then pay to upgrade to full versions or newer versions. If you decide you don’t want them, keeping the software on your computer might slow it down by using precious memory, disk space, and processing power.
Read this part of the above link.
That will solve a lot of your problems.
Also, scan for Malware:http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
Download the Free Version from the link above.
Download, install, update and scan once a fortnight..
Cheers.

- Deleted everything I had, original Post - put everything in Recycle Bin - have to Restore one as it effected Windows Email. Slow as ever.
It seems like puter got slower with one of the last two Vista upgrades. Just now tried to call up one of the puter's games, games it came with, Chess - took 20 seconds and used to be instanteous. I have no doubt that the problem plagues all manners of being on-line, downloading or whatever.
Past problems still exist. This junk puter does not have things in the same manner that people instruct when trying to help me. "Run" just does nothing that I can see and I have to go find it as it is buried under something (forget what). Search under Start doesn't do anything except search my email!
As in the link above (Improvements) I don't click Systems and Management. I click Control Panel as there is no Systems and Management, but Performance Information and Tools is there. Systems and Management is under Start, All Programs.
With one of the last upgrades I lost the Google Search and it now just plain sucks for working - when I correctly type in a site I expect to go directly to it, not to Google's pages.
Creating a Tab is sheer h___. Just like now, I've lost this forum three times trying to find things to help my reply. I still think creating a Tab is dumb - I think it should be automatic, my Presario was that way. The only way I lost a forum or site was through Closing or shutting off the puter. Putting the pointer on the square for Tab and I get "New Tab." Click it and I get some Google page or a blank and with the blank I can't enter a site to it. Right now I absolutely can not be on two or three sites at the same time. Going to additional site wipes out the first site - vicious circle thing, I guess.
