Normally I wouldn't bother posting about a locked up system, but this rig (Vista 64 Ultimate) has been stable for a week since upgrading to an i7. So I came in around midnight and my computer was locked up humming a c note (sound card was making a continuous tone). I rebooted and logged back in. A few minutes later, it did it again. So I logged in again and scanned C: with McAfee, no problems. I noticed this event happened right before it locked up both times.

TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

About the time I got it rebooted a 2nd time, a friend IM'd me griping about his computer locking up like mine did. We've got similar rigs running Vista 64 Ultimate, but he's running a Intel Q6600. It's happened several times more to his rig. Mine seems stable.

Guess this is more of an FYI than a question. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi. I have a Vista desktop (Vista Ultimate SP2) and a Win7 laptop connected on a home network via a D-Link DIR-655 router using ethernet connections. They both have BitDefender Internet Security 2010 running, and I have made sure that the firewall allows all traffic from the local network. Windows Firewall is turned off on both machines. The Win7 laptop can see the Vista machine, access shared files, etc. The Vista machine can see the Win7 laptop in Explorer and on the network map, but it can't browse the laptop or access shared files on it.

When I use the command line to type "net view \\<Win7 Laptop>\", I get the following error: "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."

I have read the "Cant get computers to connect on network" thread and followed the steps outlined there. Any other suggestions? What other info can I give you? Thanks for any help.

This is concerning the automatic polling that takes place every 60 seconds and why it is with great difficulty to stop it. Will this issue ever be resolved?

I've gone to the lengths of uninstalling wireless card drivers and replacing them with XP drivers and utilizing a THIRD PARTY program to ease the interupts. This is not a problem with my card or wireless connection and many other people complain and have the same problem. Online applications and games are basically rendered un-usable due to the constant interupts.

A couple of my users that are trying to save files to a mapped network drive gets the following message: You don't have permission to save on this resource. Contact your administrator if you need permission. The users are running Vista and the network resource are on a 2003 standard server. The users all have Modify permission to the resource.

I used to link two laptops with a crossover cable and had no problems but now when I change my ip address it keeps going back to zero.

I'm trying to synchronize ACT between two laptops. I usually connect the cable, change my ip address and it works but now it's not working and when I look at the ip address to check it's correct there are just zeros. Any ideas???
one laptop is vista the other is xp. the frustrating thing is it has worked well for months!!!!

I have had my Windows Vista x32 for almost a year now, and have been impressed for the most part. As of the update that took place on my vista last night to today (11/24-25/09) I am unable to browse anything via any browser, but I am able to connect to the internet through other programs like Skype, Xfire, AIM, etc.
I can almost guarantee that this is due to the update, and I have been trying all day to fix it.

I have narrowed the answer away from other possible problems:

-This has nothing to do with my modem, router, or ISP, considering every other computer on this network has no problems at all, and the only computer that does is the only one with Vista installed.

-My internet connection was fine prior to the update (last night), just short of the typical internet "whatevers".

I've tried all of the following:

-Command prompt lines that reset my winsock, ip, etc.
-System restores to almost a whole month ago.
-The elimination of the security file updates installed overnight.
-No, it's not in offline mode

I can't even remember if there was more that I did, but chances are I did.
I really don't like how the Updates are mandatory unless you make it otherwise, and up until now I have never had an issue with the random updating processes.
I hate how Microsoft's own product has limited what I'm supposed to be able to do.

I need a solution as soon as humanly possible, and any suggestions are welcome...

Can find Vista box, can't share folders or printers.

I have a desktop running Windows Vista and I’m unable to access shared folders or printers on the network. When I open ‘Network’ on my laptop I’m able to see the desktop, but when I try to access I receive the message below:

“Error 0x80070035 – The network path was not found”

If I attempt to install a printer it times out. I’ve disabled my firewalls (Norton and the Windows Firewall) but the issue still persists.

The network is set to ‘Private’ on both systems, the workgroup is the same on both systems and I have the following settings:

· Network discovery - on

· File sharing - on

· Public folder sharing - on

· Printer sharing - on

· Password protected sharing - off

· Media sharing - on

Any advice would be appreciated.

( Con'd from above ) An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send / receive messages you will be asked to enter user name and password for this account. I have read of many other users with the same problem and have tried numerous expert suggested solutions but have not yet come up with a result. The answer must be there somewhere! Unable to Share Media Over My Network...

this is going to be long as i try to give you all the details that i have, but i'm stumped here.

i have a home wired network with a wireless access point and a roku soundbridge connected to my audio system. this has worked in the past but i had to get a new wired router and since then i can't get my pc to share music with the network. my wap is unencrypted, and the soundbridge shows it is connected to it with a very strong signal (it's only 2 feet away). i was able to download updated os for the roku without a problem, but there is no music server showing up. on the pic (dell running vista), when i open windows media player i checked and it indicates that it is set up to share all music and videos and my other pc's and the soundbridge are listed with little 'green checkmarks' next to them as approved devices for sharing. i also made sure to check the box that ms doesn't want you to that automatically allows sharing for any new devices on the network. i've searched for the proper settings and this seems to be correct....

with all this, the soundbridge doesn't show any music on the network even though it seems to be connected wirelessly. do you have any suggestions on what i can do--it seems to me to be more of a windows media player/vista issue than a hardware issue.

I am running Vista on an HP laptop. Everything worked fine until the last set of windows and office updates. After the update, i cannot acces the internet. I DO have a wireless connection and CAN ping google and yahoo, but IE7, Google Chrome and Safari cannot acces the internet.
If I restore my computer to a point prior to the last 15 updates, everything works fine. Last night I restored to 10/28/09 and everything worked fine. Then it downloaded and installed all the latest updates for windows, and it won't connect to the internet again.
Which update is causing the problem and how do i fix it?
I have an XP laptop that works fine on the same network.
Please Help!

VPN Server setup and Routing and Remote Access service

I am trying to set up a VPN server on my 32bit Vista Home Premium. After Adding the incoming connection, I receive an error:
"Windows could not create your connection.

Incoming connections depend on the Routing and Remote Access service, which was unable to start. For more information, check the system event log."

In the event log is apparently another error:

"Event Viewer

MMC could not create the snap-in."

Thirdly, I tried to use Microsoft Online support and the site said there was a problem with my Product ID and gave me the option to pay $59.00 for support. My Product ID is fine!

Help please!

Vista Home Basic Can't connect to Internet

Hi, I have an Dell desktop with Vista Home Basic SP1 installed. It is connected to my home wireless network and Internet through router and DSL. All network connections seems working fine except no web page can be dispalyed.

Here are the details:

Network "Access" status - Access:Local and Internet
No problem can be found with the Internet connection by running the Window Network Diagnostics (diagnostic and repair)
My another two Window XPs (at the same network) have no problem accessing the Internet
IP address is working fine, both ping and tracert to different web sites like YAHOO are working
I have tried disable the Window firewall but does not help
I also tried reset the IE setting to default but does not help
The message I received is Internet Explore cannot display the webpage

Can anybody help? Thanks!

My Fiance's Vista Basic box started taking forever to make an internet connection at boot up. From the time her desktop came up to the time that the little red X disappeared from the network icon in her tray was taking up to four and five minutes. I tried everything to remedy this but nothing worked. So I'm looking thru her installed programs which is kinda like the add/remove program utility in windows XP, and I see something called Bonjour. It's networking software by Apple, which certain other software programs use to function. I believe she installed it when she got her new smart phone and install disks. At any rate, I uninstalled Bonjour, rebooted, and bingo!, internet connection completed about ten seconds after the desktop came up. So if you're having a similar problem, check your program list and look for Bonjour. Uninstall it and see if it solves your network issue in Windows Vista. If it doesn't solve it, you can always reinstall Bonjour if you really think you need it.

I have reset the search provider, removed add ons, hacked the registry and tried editing the host file. I have removed bing from my search list I just get one called search the web that sends me to bing. I have tried every suggestion on the web. I would like to know if anyone at microsoft knows which update I installed that added bing so I can uninstall the update and get my browser back from bing.

I am using Vista Ultimate and IE7. I do not allow auto update so it was an important or recommended update. I guess I can remove all updates and start one by one but I am hoping I might get an answer.

I am trying to Send e-mails in Outlook. When I hit Send my e-mail does not go. Outlook adds a time in 'Delay E-mail.' I go to Tools and uncheck this box (in Delay E-mail) and try and Send but Outlook keeps adding a time and checking the box. This is happening both and on-line (I use a laptop and Dongle) It has only just started happening and I cannot turn it off.

I'm having an issue with the wireless on my laptop. Its an HP Pavilion dv6000 and its just under a year old. I haven't had any issues with the wireless until recently. I use the laptop at home and usually the internet is fine (aside from the occassional disconnect) but when I'm at school it frequently won't connect to the school network (I'm a university student and there are several routers throughout the school and in the many buildings). Sometimes it will connect in one building and I'll move to another and it won't connect. Everytime it won't connect it always says "Identifying...(wireless network name)". No amount of repairing, restarting or reseting the network adapter will make it connect. The weird thing is that sometimes it will connect to the router in that particular building (i.e. the library) and sometimes it won't. Everytime I check the status it shows that the laptop is recieving but not sending.

Help! This problem is really starting to irritate me and I don't want to end up throwing my laptop across the library.

We bought our MS Broadband Networking Wireless Base Station in 2003. Now we have the base computer on Vista and the client on XP. The client stopped functioning. We have tried changing the settings and it says on one screen that he's connected and another screen that he's not. He can't access the internet. Can you help?

Email going out but not coming in

I can send mail out through Windows Mail and from eircom's webmail, but none is coming back to my inbox, I've been on to eircom and have checked all settings, they can see mail on the server but I can't.

I've lowered security levels and have taken the Firewall off for a while, the account is not near its limit.

Strangely two emails did come in today, one from yahoogroups and another from the Irish Times news digest.

Have I inadvertently changed a setting locally?

I am having problems connecting both my laptops to the internet at my parents house. They have a local area connection, with a router. They have two of their own computers connected to this router via ethernet cable (no wireless) and the internet works fine on their computers.

Normally when I come home from college, I can just plug in the ethernet cable and come online but I can't do this anymore. For both of my laptops I get "Limited or No Connectivity." One laptop has XP (Dell) and the other has Vista (Toshiba). The laptop with XP use to connect all the time with no problem.

I've tried using the diagnose program in the Toshiba, but I can't connect to the internet. It seems as if the router doesn't want to add another computer to the LAN or something.

I've exhausted the troubleshooters and the diagnose program.

It is also not an issue with the cable as I have tried other cables. My father's laptop connects fine to the internet, and when I tried that cable, my laptop would not connect.

All of the cables go to the same router that's connecting me to the internet on the computer I'm using to type this.

The laptops that aren't connecting are a Dell Inspiron E1405 and a Toshiba Satillite A505

I am unable to change Network Discovery's status to "on", when in the Network and Sharing Center. When I click "Apply" nothing will changes...it remaines off.

Why are my file copies so SLOW?

I've been trying to solve a perplexing problem ever since I switched to Vista with all my new PCs.

File copies between my two PCs over Cat6 cable are really slow. And I mean REALLY slow -- around 100K/sec at best. If I switch to wireless I can get near 1MB/sec. There are no firewalls, spyware, or anit-virus software running on either of the computers. I've also turned off thumbnails. And tried different cables.

The strange part is I get different behavior depending on the size of the file. Sometimes it starts out slow, other times it copies at 40MB/sec for a few seconds then drops to 100K or less. At one point I thought behavior was different for media files vs. "normal" data files, but that's probably a figment of my imagination.

The main point is that whenever I try to copy a single large file (300MB+) over the wired network, Windows Vista CHOKES. I usually pull out the USB drive and copy in two steps rather than wait hours & hours for Vista to copy the 300MB file directly, but that's just insane. It should only take a few second for such a file to copy.

Note: WinXP and Mac machines on the same network have no such problem. This is a Vista-specific issue and both my Vista machines have the latest Windows updates. I know some file copy problem was supposed to have been fixed with SP1 but my problem continues.

Any ideas?

I have a HP1022 printer installed on Vista Business 32 bit SP2. It works perfectly as a local printer. It is also shared over the network with a laptop running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. When I print from the laptop a job is placed in the print queue on the Vista PC but it does not start. If I stop and then restart the print queue using services the the job from the laptop is printed. How do I force the remote print job to start?

The HP1022 works prefectly when installed locally on the Window 7 laptop.
Both PCs are fully updated with all recommended patches.
File sharing between the two machines appear to work correctly.

I got a blue right arrow on the "at" of a sent email in Windows Mail. What does this mean exactly? The message should have been delivered normally according the details.

I created a netsetup.exe file on my current XP computer and attempted to use this file to setup a wireless connection on a new Vista laptop. At the end of the Wizard, I receive a message that setup failed.

Cannot reconnect to internet after switching off modem

If I switch off the modem and switch it on again I cannot reconnect to the internet. I can overcome the problem either by rebooting the computer or by going through a diagnose and repair process which is tedious. I'm running Vista home premium, ethernet router, only one computer, Vista firewall, AVG anti-virus.

I can reply/forward emails no problem

OK, Im new to this networking stuff but my Vista System shows my Vista Computer to router to internet in the view full map. However my Xp system I played around with this a few hours last night to get it this good but anyhow, It's below the network map my vista system made out for me and says this, The following discovered devices cannot be placed in map at bottom of screen and has the xp system there? Is this correct way to do this? cause, in the view computers and devices on the left side of my network and sharing center of my vista system both computers are in there. I had to figure out how to set a password and all this junk to get into the other computer from this system but I did it took a few hours but I just want to know if all that sounds right? Like I said im new to this very new most of the time im on online games not doing nuthing but I decided to give this a try when I got ps3 and tv last month, for the simple reason you can do alot on it thru computers.

Anyhow here it is simplified i go to network and sharing on vista system, hit the view full map and it shows my vista computer-to router-to internet, and directly below at bottom of page it has the following, discovered devices could not be placed in map and shows the XP system. I am adding again opening the view computers and devices or network once you click that is what it says at top, they are both in that though just the xp one cant be placed on the map that I make but is recognized on that page? Is this right?

I also want to mention in the network place where it shows both computers i used to have the router in that area to but when i was playing around to get this right that shut down the flow of internet and disappeared when i went into the router settings and clicked update and the flow of internet came back and all the stuff im asking about is pretty much result, but the router did show itself as part of the network in that box at one time but alot of the above stuff wasnt showing up.

1. Up to this point, I was using the Internet to access my work e-mail (via employer-provided website);

2. Then, I have successfully configured my Windows Mail to receive and store messages on my PC locally via the POP3 server. It functions perfectly fine, with (new) messages received and sent;

3. PROBLEM: Although I have marked all of the previously-read mail as "unread," the Windows Mail won't download these messages. It only receives NEW ones;

4. Background: On another pop3-based mail program I previously used, it gave me the option to "receive new mail only" or not, but Windows Mail does not seem to provide this option; and here is the...

5. QUESTION: How can I download the mail which I've read on the server, marked unread, into my Windows Mail via POP3?
