I am setting up a new computer and connecting to the exsisting networked printer. I find the printer fine, but then it asks for username and password. I don't know what username and password. I have not set up any user names and passwords.  I have had this problem in the past with computers running Vista but have never been able figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Cindy,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers!

I would suggest you turn off password protected sharing.

       1. Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Network and Sharing Center.

       2. Under Sharing and Discovery, click the arrow button next to Password-protected sharing, click Turn off password-protected sharing, and then click Apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I would also suggest you to turn off User account control settings on your computer.

       1. Click on Start; Go to Control Panel.
       2. Click on User Accounts and also click on User Account and control settings.
       3. Uncheck on Turn User account control on or off

Note: Turning off User Account Control will lead to some security threats.

Let me know if this worked
