    Hi,

I have a Laptop with Vista Home Premium, and I am trying to connect to another laptop on Vista Home Premium as well, using Remote Desktop or remote assisnce. For some reason, it is refusing to connect.

Both laptops are in different cities though.

Is there any particular reason why it is not connecting either ways?

Please any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Mege,
    Welcome to Microsoft Windows Forums!

    ·         Are you getting any error message?

    Method 1

Your firewall may be blocking the ports for Remote Desktop to work correctly in the case of the Windows Firewall we can add an exception by:

    1.      Open Control Panel

    2.      Open Security Center

    3.      Click Windows Firewall

    4.      Ensure ‘Don’t Allow Exceptions” is not selected

    5.      Click the ‘Exceptions’ tab

    6.      Ensure there is a check mark in ‘Remote Desktop Connection’

    Method 2

By default, server authentication is enabled for the connection. However, you may change the server authentication settings and see if it helps.

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Communication, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.
    2. Click Options, and then click the Advanced tab.

The three available authentication options are as follows:

    • Always connect, even if authentication fails
If you enable this option, you can connect even if RDC 6.1 cannot verify the identity of the remote computer.
    • Warn me if authentication fails
If you enable this option, RDC 6.1 tells you if it cannot verify the identity of the remote computer. This option gives you the choice of whether to continue with the connection.
    • Do not connect if authentication fails
If you enable this option, you cannot connect if RDC 6.1 cannot verify the identity of the remote computer.

    Hi Bindu,

When I try connecting to the other Vista Home Premium computer using Remote Desktop Connection, this error message comes up:

"This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator."

I read somewhere that you cannot use a RDC on a vista-to-vista home premium computer. I have also tried using Remote Assistance, it doesn't seem to find the other computer.

    Hi Mege,

Remote Desktop is not a feature in Windows Vista Home Premium.
