When trying to get into Windows Mail, a window comes up saying "Windows Mail is not currently your default e-mail program. Would you like to make it your default program now? The default e-mail program is used whenever you send a file via e-mail from within another program, or you click a mailto:link in a Webpage. Always perform this check when starting Windows Mail? (with a box) There's also a yellow caution symbol in the top left but it doesn't look authentic.  This has never come up before. I can't close the window with the X or right click.  I have to got to task manager and close the program.  Is this legitimate?
    Thanks

     Answer

    Hi Coach Wayne

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum!

         Methods I would recommend are:

         Method 1:

Set Windows mail as default program. Steps to follow

    i.            Go to Control Panel, double-click "Default programs"

ii.          Click "Set your default program" it takes a few seconds to load the list.

    iii.         Click Windows mail

iv.        Select Set the program default/Choose defaults for this program

         Method 2:

    i.            Go to Control Panel, double-click "Default programs"

ii.          Click on set program access and computer defaults

    iii.         Select Microsoft Windows

iv.        Make sure email is set to Windows mail

Thanks for the feedback.  After I sent out my question I actually went and tried what you suggested.  For Method 2, Windows Mail is set as the default.  For method 1,when I click on Windows Mail it says "This page has 2 out of 3 defaults" When I went to set the defaults it shows "Mail to  URL:Mailto Protocol" set to Windows Mail and "E-mail link Start Menu Link" set to Windows Mail.  The third entry shows .eml Windows Live Mail E-mail Messages defaulted to Windows LIve Mail.  Should I change that as well?
I'm still a little nervous that this may be a virus because the caution sign looks a little odd.  The caution sign is a triangle with the exclamation mark.  Aren't Windows cautions typically shaped like a shield?  I've sent a message to Mcafee to see if they have any thoughts but have not heard back yet.

    Thanks
    Wayne
