I have put a new C: drive into my laptop, and have installed my copy of Vista on it.  I need to have (as before) several different versions of my Canon printer.  (It's much easier to select a separate printer for each printing configuration than to modify the various settings each time I wasnt to print envelopes or landscape-hinged-on-the-short-edge).  I thought I could copy the basic version and paste it (in the Printers window).  Then I modify the copy and it's done.

However, I can't remember how I managed this last time I installed Vista.  The display that lists the printers (with an icon for Add Printer) doesn't allow me to select the printer, then Copy, click the background and Paste -- Copy and Paste are both greyed out.

Nor can I install each version separately.  The printer (Canon iP4300) isn't on the list that Vista offers, and if I click Have Disk and point to the disk that came with the printer, it can't find the drivers on the disk.  If instead I just run the disk's Setup file, it recognises that the iP4300 has already been installed, and declines to install a second copy that I can modify.

Can anyone point me to documentation that will tell me how to do it?  I do know it's possible, because I've done it before; I just know that the way I thought I had done it doesn't work now.

    Hello Peter Quarrell,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

Visit Canon's website to download the best updated driver.
Extract the ip4300 driver from the exe. Using the driver alone will allow you to add a printer multiple times and will simply name them canon IP4300, canon IP4300(1), etc. Then you can rename then and set each instance the way you like.

    Hope this helps
