my problem is that i cant run DVD/CD ROM Drive because drive device has been disappeared. when i look in the device manager, it comes up as Windows cannot start this hardware device(Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500s) because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). so when i tried to check for solution, it appears as it could not load drivers software. could you please give necessary steps for solution. i bought my hp laptop a year ago.

    Hi,

Could be loose or corroded cable if a PC (only takes a little) and corrosion or back contacts can
also affect a laptop. Remove all power (and battery if laptop) and check cables & connections -
actually remove and replace - do not just snug) and you can clean contacts with a pencil eraser.
Also the cable could be bad, and of course the drive could be.

If you do not feel confident in doing that please take to a good repair shop (not leeks and peeks
at BestBuy or a big box store) and/or contact the manufacturer. Reseating the cables and so on
only has a mininal chance of working anyway.

    Wish there was better news.

    Hi,

Code 19 means there is a driver conflict such as two devices trying to use the same resources.

Try this - Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click the device - Driver's Tab - click
Update Drivers (this will likely do nothing) - then RIGHT CLICK the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
this will refresh the default driver stack.

Normally the above will fix that issue if not work your way down through these even if you have done
    them before.

    Hi,

Well short of a new drive or possibly re-installing Windows - you can check with System maker
to see if there is a special driver for you DVD - some do not use the windows default drivers.

Hi, i tried all the steps of solutions that you have mentioned, but neither did work. my driver for my cd/dvd is still not working and its not showing in my computer. when i reboot, the error message appears as device driver software is not successfully installed. i dont know how to check system maker if there is special driver for the dvd that might solve the problem. i would be grateful if you can provide possible solutions for this.
