Running combat flight simulator in vistaHi

I am trying to run the original 1998 version of combat flight simulator in vista. I have run this no problem in xp. The program installs OK and runs OK but does not work from a joystick. I can calibrate the joystick from within the program but not actually control anything. I have installed flight simulator 98 and had exactly the same problem. Both programs ran perfectly in xp. I realise that the latest versions will more than likely work OK but at the moment cannot afford to replace my existing.
Thanks
Simon© 2009 Microsoft Corporation. If this doesn't wok then in gameplay push "alt" on your keyboard if the task bar for flight simulator isn't at the top. Once or if it is allready there select settings and then enable joystick.

Thanks
IrfanThu, 02 Jul 2009 13:12:51 Z2009-07-02T13:12:51Zhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#7bff83c9-7df9-4d00-a438-076914aa1b1fhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#7bff83c9-7df9-4d00-a438-076914aa1b1fSrinivas R - Microsoft Supporthttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Srinivas%20R%20-%20Microsoft%20SupportRunning combat flight simulator in vista

Hi Simon,

It seems that you have issues configuring the joystick to play 1998 version of combat flight simulator and flight simulator 98

In addition to Syed Irfan’s suggestion you may access the link below and try to fix game controller issue on your computer.

Link to troubleshoot game controller problems:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831361

You may try to download the latest drivers for your joystick from the manufacturer’s website and install it. Tried deselecting then reselecting joystick in program, still no good. Tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling in xp compatability mode, no good. I followed the link for troubleshooting game controlers but none of the things suggested made any difference. The program is seeing the joystick as it is possible to calibrate it, but it will not control anything. As the game is a microsoft title I am assuming that it should work ok, in fact everything seems to work ok except the joystick! Not sure what else to do now.
Cheers
SimonFri, 03 Jul 2009 17:33:13 Z2009-07-03T17:33:13Zhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#e28a51aa-a5f4-4603-8de1-ea410dda2157http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#e28a51aa-a5f4-4603-8de1-ea410dda2157Srinivas R - Microsoft Supporthttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Srinivas%20R%20-%20Microsoft%20SupportRunning combat flight simulator in vistaHi Simon,

It seems that the drivers for joystick is not updated for windows Vista. I can test the joystick and it works but will not do anything during the game, also the game profiler will not appear and I get a message that there is no gaming device detected.

Cheers

Simon L.Wed, 15 Jul 2009 19:49:41 Z2009-07-15T19:49:41Zhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#fde4342e-ff27-49b6-9e8c-fadb035db150http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#fde4342e-ff27-49b6-9e8c-fadb035db150padrekonghttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=padrekongRunning combat flight simulator in vistaSimon,

If you figure it out, let me know. I have a Microsoft SideWinder joystick, but it is doing the same thing in CFS. I can calibrate it, but it simply will not work. I followed all the steps suggested above, and it still did not work. I am running Vista 32. Anybody got a fix?????Thu, 16 Jul 2009 20:11:32 Z2009-07-16T20:11:32Zhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#ba5cb4f1-d8f5-4cf1-884f-1f471abf2bdahttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/fe074447-116d-4b51-8d90-3a24c7ed5154#ba5cb4f1-d8f5-4cf1-884f-1f471abf2bdas1simonhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=s1simonRunning combat flight simulator in vistaHi

Thanks for the replies. Never did get it to work and so have given up! None of the things suggested made any difference. The pc and vista are seeing the joystick, I can calibrate etc no problem, cfs is seeing the joystick as it will calibrate etc from within the program, but it does not see the joystick as a controlling device. As I don'y play games that often its no longer worth the hassle of trying to get it sorted! Its a shame that microsoft haven't included full backwards compatability for thier own software within vista.
If anyone does find the answer I would be interested to see what it is but for now will have to look at alternative stress relief.
Thanks
SimonMon, 20 Jul 2009 13:25:34 Z2009-07-20T13:25:34Z
