AnswerAny way to run 16 bit programs on vista?

    Problem:

    • Software requires 16 bit Windows compatibility
    • Software will not finish execution, but WILL begin execution
    • Software is Final Fantasy 7 for PC (yes, it's old, but I like my classics)

    Hi Uber Nerd,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers.

    We would like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well. 

    a)      Where you able to play the game before on Vista ?

    b)      Which version of Vista do you use? Is it a 32 bit or a 64 bit?

    Method 1:

    You can try to run the game in compatibility mode for XP. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    Run the program in compatibility mode
    When you select the compatibility mode option, Windows Vista emulates the selected operating system when you run that particular program. To run the program in compatibility mode, follow these steps:

    1.      Click Start Collapse this imageExpand this imaand then type the name of the program in the Start Search box.

    2.      In the Programs list, right-click the program name and then click Properties.

    3.      On the Compatibility tab, click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.

    4.      In the list, select an operating system and then click OK.

    Method 2:

    You may be able to work around this problem by installing the Microsoft Windows XP version of the video drivers for your video adapter. Contact the manufacturer of your video adapter for more information about how to obtain the Windows XP version of the video drivers for your video adapter. For information about your hardware manufacturer, visit the following Web site:
