Flight Simulator X has encountered a fatal error. blah blah blah
- So, I have been having this problem for about 3-4 days now. Game starts, after a few minutes it just crashes. Ive read these other forums and tried the "solutions" that they were given. No joy. I did the compatibility for Vista SP1 mode, did not work. Made sure all my drivers are up to date, did not work. Made sure Direct X and C++ are up to date, did not work. It's really getting annoying that a Microsoft made game, is not working with a BRAND NEW Microsoft operation system.
Things that trigger a game crash:
1. Changing views in game.
2. Opening ATC window.
3. Nothing, it just crashes.
So, I upgraded my computer from old hardware and WinXPPro32bit sp3 to newer, faster hardware and Win7Pro 64bit.
Computer specs as follows:
CPU - Intel Core i5-750 2.66GHz
Mobo - ASRock P55 Extreme
RAM - 4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600
Video - nVidia GTX 260
OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Like I said, I checked my drivers, DirectX, C++, and tried running in Vista SP1 mode. And none of it works. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but its just getting really annoying and frustrating when they don't work, especially if they are both Microsoft products... Any help would be nice, and again, Ive read similar post on this site from people with the same problem, and tried what they tried, and still no luck for me, or them. Any type of help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Hello Ccraige38,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum!
Firstly I would suggest you update the latest graphics card drivers which are compatible with windows 7. Download the drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install the same on the computer.
Step 1:
Also I would suggest you to run Direct X diagnostic tool and check whether it helps.
DirectX Diagnostic Tool helps you troubleshoot issues with the DirectX suite of multimedia technologies that come with Windows. If you're having trouble getting game animation or a movie to run properly, you should run DirectX Diagnostic Tool to try to find the source of the problem.
· Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button, typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.
For more information on basic problems with Direct X, please refer the link mentioned below:

Step 2:
You can refer to the link below which gives you all the information about Flight simulator X and also on how to fix the issue and let us know whether it helps you to fix the issue.
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_flightsim_master#tab0
If the issue persists, then I would suggest that you post the issue in Microsoft Flight Simulator games Forum for further assistance.
I hope this information helps. Please get back to us if you have any more questions about this issue.
Thanks and Regards

Visit our http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/answersfeedback/threads- Okay, so after running DxDiag in both 32 bit and 64 bit, I found that my system is running in DirectX 11 mode. Now, from what I have read, Flight Simulator X doesn't like that. So, how can I get it back to a different DirectX mode that Flight Simulator X actually works with. Because this problem is still going on, after all the pages I've read, and forums I've posted, no one seems to have an answer. That is disappointing.

- Hi
I have the just the SAME problem. Ive done everything it sais here above but I can't get this problem out of my comp.!
It worked on my computer before I installed Windows 7. Any Windows guy who Please could give us further help?
BTW. I downloaded the "DirectX 9" link thing you told him to but when i ran DxDiag it still said that i ran on Dx 11.. Humm. Like Whats the thing with it? Mayby i have to remove Dx 11 to be able to use Dx 9..
Please help! I ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, LOOKED INTO ALL THE SUPPOSED ANSWERS AND NONE WORK. LET JUST SAY, I SPENT 50 BUCKS ON A GAME I CANNOT PLAY. I WOULD LIKE TO RETURN IT BUT BESTBUY WILL NOT TAKE IT SINCE IT HAS BEEN OPENED. I NEVER HAD A GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH MIRCOSOFT i.e. XBOX. I WILL NOT BE BUYING A MICROSOFT PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE. BRING IT ON MAC.
- I'm running FSX just fine in Windows 7 on my rig:
Intel Q9550 with crappy stock heatsink
Evga GeForce GTX275 896MB driving Acer X243W LCD
Kingston valueram 800mhz ddr2 8GB
Intel DP35DP motherboard
SB X-Fi Xtremegamer
LG GBC-H20L blu-ray burner
150GB and 74GB raptor drive
2x1500GB seagate sata drives
2TB WD sata
P180 silent case with Corsair 750TX
I didn't have to do anything special or run in compatibility mode to get it to work. Make sure you install the FSX SP1 though since I know before that the program was quite buggy and prone to crashes.
If all your drivers and everything else is up to date I'd say your rig isn't stable. Actually, I use FSX all the time to test my PC builds for stablility because if it's not build 100% stable it will crash quite randomly.
p.s. There is no way to remove DX11 in Win7 since it's part of the OS. You can install and should install the latest DX9 runtimes though.
- I am having a VERY similar problem. My system setup is almost identical to CCraig's system. With mine, FSX runs at half speed (shift+Z fps shows 40+fps). It's very smooth, but it's in slow motion. I can get something similar to normal use by increasing the rate to 2x, but this is definitely a problem that needs to be fixed. I've tried multiple cards from both ATI and NVidia. I'm on Windows 7 32-bit, and dxdiag says Directx 11 is installed. I've gone to the microsoft site and downloaded and installed all the end-user runtimes, and the install tool says I'm completely up to date and there are no additional runtimes it can install. I have add-on programs for FSX (not yet installed since I reformatted and installed Windows 7 fresh). I have too much money tied up in FSX. Since Windows, Directx and Flight Simulator X are all Microsoft products, there is no reason why anyone should be having this problem. It needs to be addressed.
- Like I said most likely your hardware is not up to snuff.
I just installed it on my secondary AMD rig which is made up of:
Pheonom II x4 920
evga 730a mobo
8GB OCZ ram
ATI 4870 vidcard
36GB raptor drive
running Windows 7 64 enterprise
and it runs as smooth as butter there too except for crowded airports like LAX or JFK where it can drop down to single digit framerate.
Only time I ever saw glitches or strange pauses was with old videocard that had bad ram. As soon as I got new videocard never had problem again.
Like I said FSX is a good benchmark for a stable and powerful rig. Too bad FSX is the last one Microsoft will ever make :(
Will have to rely on next version of Crysis from now on to push a PC to it's limits!
p.s. I wouldn't count on much support from Microsoft with this game since they pretty much fired all their Flight Simulator X staff last year which I will never forgive them for!
- PLEASE HELP!
I've just spent two soiled weeks trying to stop fsx crashing on my new pc.
I've done just about every thing and still it CRASHES,
(around 20 min into flight usally when Changing veiws, right clicking etc) and
its driving me and my family nuts!
The PC is a brand new phenom11 4x 3.2 amd 995(over clocked to 3.5gh)
8g corsair ram
1tb hd
ati hd770 1gb graphics
windows 7 ultimate
brand new fsx gold addition
I've unistalled it from progams a dozen times,
clean booted ,shut down firewalls ,partitiond hard drive, checked all up date drivers and all else,
same result every time,
ive trawled through every forum and now im fed up.
Microsoft, why does this game not play????????
Hi Guys, I also am getting the same error, the game crashes when changing views, some windows fatal error. I’m running:
INTEL I5 750 PROCESSOR
ASUS P7P55D DELUXE MOTHERBOARD
2X 2GB KINGSTON DDR3 1333MHZ MEMORY
2X NVIDIA GEFORCE GTS250 (NOT IN SLI MODE)
3X 23” LCD’S
1X 42” LCD
So I’m running the game on 4 screens, sometimes when selecting views, the game crashes and windows 7 is giving me a “Fatal error”, other times when just playing it crashes with the same error.
I did install the latest nVidia drivers as well as updated windows, as far as Direct X 9, the game installs itself when installing the game.
Can anyone help?
