Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop. Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate.

Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website. For more information see Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7. (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7)

Also your system must support hardware virtualization in order for it to work. You can check to see if your computer supports it by going to grc.com/securable.htm

Also since Windows XP Mode runs as a virtual OS on top of Windows 7, don't expect to run high end graphics Apps like CAD or Photoshop or even Games that utilize 3D technology. There are alternatives that provide 3D video card support, but unlike XPM you'll have to procure your own Windows XP license first.

So here's a fun licensing question then:

If I Upgrade an XP machine to 7, then I want to manually build an XP VHD for that machine, wouldn't it be legal *on that machine only* to use the XP License to build the XP VM?

I don't have a need for an answer here, just something that struck me as interesting... :)
