    Hi,

NahodilJr you really should start your own thread especially since DEP issues are different. Other than the below
you should check with the Support of the game and with their forums.

EricLaw's IEInternals - A look at Internet Explorer from the inside out. - Understanding DEP/NX
    http://blogs.msdn.com/ieinternals/archive/2009/10/10/Understanding-Data-Execution-Prevention-Crashes-in-IE8.aspx

The problem might actually be an addon or other program causing the problem and you should check that
    1st.

What antivirus/antispyware/security product do you have on machine? Include any you have EVER has on this
machines including those you uninstalled (they leave remnants behind which can cause strange issues).

Start - All Programs - Accessores - System Tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - click Restore then click Reset - Apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - Reset all Zones to default level - Apply / OK

    any better?

Close IE and then try IE and/or IE with no Addons

IE - Tools - Manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, this is no longer needed but Java still installs it
and it causes issues - you ever update Java go back in and disable it again.) Look for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - Tools - Software Explorer - look for issues with programs that do not look right. Permitted
are usually OK and "not permitted" are not always bad. If in doubt about a program ask about it here.

Could be a BHO - BHOremover - Free - standalone program, needs no install, download and run - not all
are bad however some can cause your issue. (Toolbars are BHO's)
    http://securityxploded.com/bhoremover.php

    Startup Programs
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79612-startup-programs-enable-disable.html

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be
unusual with Prevx running except for an occasional low level cookie (no big deal), UPDATE it and then
    run it as a scanner.

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

I would add prevx as well.

Prevx - Home - Free small, fast, exceptional CLOUD protection, works with other security programs. This is
a scanner only, VERY EFFECTIVE, if it finds something come back here or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor'a Choice
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2346862,00.asp

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Do yourself a big favor and work through the above 1st.

How to control DEP however I do not recommend turning it off and certainly not leaving it off.

How Turn DEP On or Off for a Program in Vista
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65790-dep-turn-off-programs.html

How to Enable or Disable DEP in Vista
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/120778-dep-enable-disable.html

    ====================================

If nothing else works you can try this however I would use as last resort.

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Options - Security Section - uncheck Enable Memory Protection to Mitigate
OnLine Attacks - APPLY - OK   Close and Restart IE

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Update your ATI Display (Video driver).

    ATI drivers
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

    -----------------------------------------

References to Vista also work for Windows 7.

This is my generic how to for proper driver updates :

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system. For
each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver, description,
version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model of your
video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate Driver (this
may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click - Uninstall - REBOOT
this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party with their
own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device Maker's site
(Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for BIOS, Chipset and software
updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually shows up. This
is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers particularly do this) so install a
driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm

How to Install a Device Driver in Vista Device Manager
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

If you update drivers manually then it is a good idea to disable Driver Installations in Windows Updates,
this leaves Windows Updates ON however it will not install drivers which will usually be older and cause
issues. If Updates suggests a new driver then HIDE it (Right Click on it) and then go look for new ones
    manually if you wish.

How To Disable Automatic Driver Installation In Windows Vista - Drivers

    Hope these help.

No Heat issues, all hardware such as CPU and GPU have been monitored and are in fact between idle and min-average load, with the temps staying as they should be....

CPU temp - around 30-40 celsius
    GPU around 40-45 celsius

    Windows is up to date
    AV is up to date
Graphics card drivers are up to date.

Basically everything is how it should be except for this damn crashing!

If no solution can be found, I will no option other than reinstalling win 7 again!

    Quick spec
    Win7 64bit student upgrade (clean/custom install)
    ATI 3870
    M3A32 Asus
    about 1.25tb between 4 hd's, 2x74 raptors n 2x500
    4gb ram
amd atholon dual core x2 5000 BE running at 3.25ghz (been stable for the past year or more, basically since Iv brought and installed everything)

Did you check manually at ATI for updated driver?

The "crashes" all indicate a driver issue. It is possible for a game to make out-of-bounds requests
and so on that would cause the driver to do this.

Drivers are ATI's latest updated drivers, I build computers all the time, so Iv tried everything I can think of

    - I did not mention anything about a bluescreen, so no BSOD.

Here's the problem, again, playing any game, crashes to desktop, it is random such as, sometimes this doesnt happen for hours, sometimes its seconds
I did not have this or any similar problems with RC or Beta.

    Hi,

Sorry I misspoke, I meant crashes and not bluescreens. All the crashes are caused by your games it seems.

CoDUOMP.exe  = Call of Duty                          in   atioglxx.dll   part of your ATI driver

hl2.exe            = Steam of Single Ship Player   in   atiumdag.dll part of your ATI driver

SoF.exe           =  Soldier of Fortune                 not shown

Are you running the Catalyst versions of their drivers? Are you over-clocking?

Check with ATI support, their forums, and the game forums. Have you tried reverting back a driver version?

I will never get a mac, infact im totally against ALL apple products,

This problem is NOT to do with MS, as has been pointed out correctly, its to do with my discrete graphics card, have you even heard of anything like that? oh sorry MAC's dont believe in upgrading tech, anyways. dont flame in my topic.

Although its not the correct answer, i marked it for your reply and suggestions. Thanks

2 days now without a crash, uninstalled the latest drivers and installed the one's just before it, think its the 9.9 version, whereas the latest are 9.10.

    Hi,

Appreciate the mark however I did suggest reverting back a version :)

"Check with ATI support, their forums, and the game forums. Have you tried reverting back a driver version?"

When you have these type issues I think its best to check with ATI and their forums as you probably will find
many with same issue. Especially if you do not hop on any new driver and let other be the guinia pigs.

    Good work!

Sorry my mistake, yes you did :)

Tbh, I should have done this before, and as for amd forums, I couldnt find any topics there, which were the same as mine. I found many others with "crashes", but not exactly the same "crashing to desktop in windows 7".

    Thanks again.

Btw, Win 7's "ms update" found the latest drivers as soon as I uninstalled, and keeps stating to install the latest drivers. I think I'll skip it for now and wait for 9.11, maybe there will be a fix.

Before posting my last comment, I uninstalled only ATI drivers and installed one version earlier, now i have a new error, but I get the feeling i will have to uninstall ALL of ATI software, such as chipset, CCC and graphics card drivers?

    Hi,

Steam is still forcing the card out-of-bounds - did you check with the authors and any game forums?

If your device has them are you installing the Catalyst versions of your drivers? You should be.

You could check for updates to BIOS, Motherboard/System Maker for Chipset drivers and AMD/INTELL
or whoever made the system chipsets.

What do you mean "forcing the card out of bounds"?

Everything is updated, except for the ATI drivers.

    Yup, using CCC...

That means the game is telling the card to do something it can't such as but not limited to non-existing
memory areas and other resources. And the driver is partially at fault for accepting the instruction.

googled the first dll and found some a fix, which states to turn off the "shiney water" effect in css, but then that wouldnt apply to my other games, however, I searched all of css settings, could not find it, so instead put everything on lowest settings and some on recommended.

Google the second dll, found nothing tbh...

Searched Catalyst Control Centre for the "shiney water" effect, but again could not find it, everything is application controlled.

Anyways, the crashes are still random.

I will completely uninstall all ATI software/drivers/apps etc, and use something like driver cleaner to make sure its gone.

Use disk cleanup and av and ____ cleaner and maybe even defrag (I have already defrag'd n checked CSS files "integrity")

After that I will try the 9.9 drivers again, if this fails then, all of the above but this time, with 9.10

Im hoping I dont have to go through another OS install, but looks like that it may have to be done if all of the above fail.

UNLESS, ofcourse I know exactly what the problem/error is and can fix it with some setting/update/patch? - Higly doubt this though... :(

ATI support forums has alot of users posting the exact same error, but there is currently no fix from ATI, however, a google search states that the "atiumdag.dll" is actually a microsoft file?

Having just installed Modern Warfare 2, a game I was sooooo looking forward to, I cant even start the game without seeing this crash to desktop and MS error confirms its this file, again!

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

Actually antiumdag.dll is from ATI industries and a copy is included with Windows. Find the file and right
click on it - Properties - then Details tab.

    atiumdag.dll
    http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/atiumdag/

The problem is with ATI drivers - if the most current do not help solve the issue then you can try reverting
back to olders ones from ATI.

The other possible culprit is the Game so check there as well. This is an ATI / MW2 issue (and other games
    with the ATI drivers).

Sorry not much help since MS does not write the drivers or the game.

I am posting here because this is the most relevent topic i have found regarding my issue.  I am using Windows Vista and while i am playing World of Warcraft my game abruptly minimizes to the desktop and seems to do so every 30 minutes.  I have checked for viruses and searched for any software that might be trying to update, and i have updated anything that needed updating.  This is very annoying and i don't want to have to go through the re-installation process for this pc.  I have an nVidia GeForce GT 120, 8GB of RAM, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor (2.33GHz)

    Hi,

Cryxie the issue is really with your Video drivers and the Game (World of Warcraft) and there is nothing
in Windows likely to help. My best advice it to check with the Support of both of those and with their
    forums.

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be
unusual with Prevx running except for an occasional low level cookie (no big deal), UPDATE it and then
    run it as a scanner.

I would add prevx as well.

Prevx - Home - Free small, fast, exceptional CLOUD protection, works with other security programs. This is
a scanner only, VERY EFFECTIVE, if it finds something come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

If nothing else works you can try this however I would use as last resort.

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Options - Security Section - uncheck Enable Memory Protection to Mitigate
OnLine Attacks - APPLY - OK   Close and Restart IE

    Hope this helps.
