How can I change my font size and style, I can not seem to be able to do this?

I had to have windows Vista reloaded on my computer. Once all the updates were caught up I seem to have lost the option to change my font style and size in all of my email test boxes. I mean all emails, Yahoo, Windows mail and hotmail. It will show that I have changed it but when I start to type in the body of the email it goes to size 12 Time Roman or Verdana which is in my hotmail. How can I fix this feature. Please help. I am somewhat a computer dummy here. Thanks

Unwanted change in Shading Color

Using Vista Home Prem I have auto updates set. Yesterday the shaded border area of all MS applications (Winword, etc.) as well as Browsers (Firefox) took on a pinkish shade rather than the neutral gray it had always been. This is the shaded area that is vertical on WinMail for message Sent dates/times, base color of the tray when using IE, etc. The ONLY color that "personalization" within Vista will not let you change is that shading color. I assume (would bet strongly) that one of the unilateral unwanted Vista updates changed this color. Anyone else seen it ? All my other colors (e.g. photos, etc.) look normal. By the way, the worst feature of Vista ownership is the continual updates that are "darned if you do - darned if you don't" enable them. Updates sometimes ask permission and other times will simply take over the machine in the middle of using it and prohibit normal activity until done.

The monitor is fine and produces all colors correctly. No, my eyes have not gone bad -- my wife sees it too. No, I have not "changed" anything. No new software. My assumption/bet is that Microsoft changed it and delivered it via automatic updates. Yes, I have rebooted the machine.
(By the way -- the header bar on this dialog window and the footer bar underneath are that pinkish shade right now...)

My daughter has managed to screw up my desktop. My icons will not show up, or do show up but the minute I activate the side bar they dissapear. Also I can no longer left or right click anywhere on the screan appart from the menu task bar

I start Wordpad, and it defaults to Arial size 10. I would like it to open with Times new Roman, size 12, which is what I alwats use. How can I make this change?

I have vista home premium, 64. My start buton flashes constantly. I believe it started after a recent load of Vista
updates.

I have Norton 360 installed, and have run Malwarebytes. No known issues.

I know that the date appears when I hover the pointer over the time. And I've noticed that if I expand the width of the notification bar, the date will show up. But I don't want to make the bar any wider. I just want the date to show beside the time. I also know that I can go into Customize Notification Icons. HOWEVER, there is no icon to select that corresponds to showing the date. (In a screen shot of another users list, I did see a globe-type icon that corresponded to showing date and time but it's not on my list.)

I'd love your help. :^)

Automating Task in Publisher

I am working with Publisher and inserting many .bmp pictures (of Japanese coins). Every one has to reduced in size to 33% and "sent to back".
How could I automate this task so that it is "one click"?

The Power and Volume notifications disappeared from my notification area after installing Vista service pack 2. The "Notification Area" tab in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties does not allow me to choose either, as they are now grayed out. Only "Clock" shows.

If my Laptop goes into sleep mode, hibernation or if I restart it, the resolution I had previously set is sometimes (not always) lost. So I am frequently having to reset the resolution and rearrange my icons. Anybody have a fix?\

this is probably so easy but my toolbar is hidden all of a sudden and at the bottom of the screen it used to show the time and icons and those are hidden now too. How can I get that back?

I just recently bought a new computer running Windows Vista, and want to use a screen saver that I had on my old computer using Windows XP. How do I get this screen saver to run on Windows Vista? I have installed it onto the new computer, and for some reason it will not work. Please help!

i can no longer get into vista by selecting the user box. I had everything on that desktop,,now it seems to be gone. How can I get it back. Vista will not let me get into the user box side only the admin box.

I am trying to get back the option of getting into my vista desktop through the user box. Two weeks ago, I clicked on the user box and it would not let me go any further. It stated that a file with dll ending was missing so I ran a defrag a couple of times. This still did not help the problem. Please help. I have lost so much from that desktop on the user side.

I'm probably barking up the wrong tree since this is a Microsoft site I was transported to, but nothing ventured...

I've had a Toshiba laptop with Vista for a couple of years and cannot find a way to adjust the brightness on the screen. I have recently suffered a mild concussion and bright light is very difficult to handle. I can find no icons on the exterior of the laptop that indicate where to manually adjust, nor can I find anything in the "help" section in my software (other than adjusting contrast with color). Suggestions would be SO welcome!

I have Windows Vista and my problem is a weird one...it seems that I am no longer the administrator of my pc. For example, when I try to download adaware it tells me I do not have administrator access although I am or was the administrator. Also, when you go to my account, the 'standard' user is always selected and when you try to select the 'administrator' account, the 'change account type' is no longer highlighted thus leaving the standard account chosen. Also, I do not have the option to create another account. I noticed this problem after sending my PC to HP for repair. This may or may not have anything to do with it. I can't imagine what would have changed since the repair was bios related. However, prior to this I remember being able to download. Any ideas about this and how it can be resolved? It's annoying when you're the only one using your PC!

My workplace is currently running windows vista enterprise edition. I keep track of approximately 500+ folders that need to be categorized into different groups by color. I know how to change the icon on folders, but I don't need that. My administrator will not allow a third party program to be loaded onto the computers.

i have not installed anything but updates. the game is still open and running and i have to alt tab back in. this is happining on short intervals and it is not game paciffic. seams like anything in full screen mode it keeps droping me to desktop. can anyone help me figure out what is doing this and help fix it. also there is no error involded or message.

using Vista. when screen saver is running and I move the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard, instead of immediately returning to business, it takes 2 or 3 minutes to wake up. machine is an emachine EL1210-09. I've tried switching screensavers and that does't make a difference. Am using a screensaver that came with the machine.

I am using Windows Vista 32-bit. When I set my screen saver to photos slide show and there's been enough time for the screen saver to start. the screen is black and has a line on it saying that an error is preventing the slide show from beginning. Doesn't say what kind of error.

Since I've had vista I have a problem using my function keys shift F11 and shift F12 while working from home using a mainframe. Does anyone know how to fix this?? All of the other function keys seem to be working ok.

OK, up until recently everything was working fine, I could delete files without the confirmation pop-up, as I selected in the recycle bin properties dialog. But now, every time I delete something the confirmation window pops up. I can open the recycle bin, uncheck the "display delete confirmation dialog" box, hit apply, then OK. But when ever I go to delete a file, the confirmation pops up again, I go to recycle bin properties, and the box for that option has become checked again. So no matter how many times I uncheck that box, it reverts to checked whenever I delete a file.

I noticed this happening around the same time I started to get the "Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer > UNBLOCK" in the properties dialog of any files I download (which I have also discovered I can not prevent because Vista Home does not have gpedit.msc) but that's neither here nor there. I've accepted the fact that I will have to manually unblock every file that has been downloaded. I just am not sure if the deletion confirmation issue has anything to do with that or not.

I have a laptop, Sony, Vista home edition. The 646 error code has been on 5 updates to download for over a month. I have tried every single suggestion here, with no avail. I am not happy with this system, and don't know why we paid full price for a trial bridge for them. It's horrible. I am very unhappy with it. I personally think that after you purchase Window 7, we will still have lots of issues and glitches. To talk to someone is almost impossible. When you do get someone out of the country, they read from a book. No body is helping this problem.

I have Windows Vista Basic and am unable to use my Control Panel. It started to open and then gets stuck. I'm unable to close it and have to close the system down. Is there a solution?

The control panel has been 'on the blink' since I purchased this laptop. Originally intermittent problems, but now refuses to open completely. Originally I set up a screensaver slide show of all my photos and this recently stopped working. Hence the need to go into my control panel to restart the slide show.
