I cannot type when I am trying to do a simple document or answer a test that has been mailed to me.  It says at bottom this modification is not allowed because the selection is locked.  How can I unlock it and where.  Please help.

    Hi jayne m,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Vista Community Forums.

We need some more info from you.

The first thing we need to know so we can help you, is what kind of document is it? As in, what program do you use to open it with?

From what information we have, it sounds like you need to open the document and choose to “Save as” and rename the document and save it under the new name. That would give you ownership of it.

If that does not work, please let us know.

I was using Word 2007, XP OS when this problem happened to me as well.

Here is what i did to fix this problem:

    -Click on the Office Button
    -Select 'Prepare'
-Select 'Mark as Final' to unlock the document

I use keyboard shortcuts often and probably marked my document as 'Final' inadvertantly.

    Hope this helps!
