So far I have observed
For any web page having some dynamic file inclusion in the header [like css], if there is some authentication 0r restriction, then the header file so far included in the header <HEAD> tag, the web page , when you trying to save as [File-->Save As.]. the web page could not be saved in any location of your Hard drive.

I have been using Microsoft since AOL was the only internet I knew of and I was excited to get vista ultimate and office 2007, then a week and a half later I found out they were making windows 7. I called Microsoft so mad I was shaking, I don't even want to get in to all that, but after there pricing thing for every other person besides ultimate users, and the fact their extras are trash. Come on chess and Texas holdem and some cheap <removed> dream scape. Microsoft does not care about it's most loyal customer and my question is. I have paid thousands for Microsoft products over the years and after that I have no problems and will not feeling bad pirating every Microsoft OS for the rest of my life. Yes they got me with the 300 vista ultimate and the service call because I registered and the lady said I should not have it started my 30 or whatever day tech service plan, best buy told me a year Mr super salesman., well 40 or 50 years of free Microsoft products ought to make up for it, so has anyone else lost the bad feeling about taking Microsoft software anymore.

Suggestion: Stop marking threads "Answered" when they clearly are not

I see many threads marked as answered when they haven't been.
Most often it's when the original poster has been asked for more information and has not returned. The support response asking the OP for more information or to try something and see what happens... gets marked as an answer by a mod.

Either the forums need a method of closing a dead thread (or just marking it as such) or these responses should not be marked as answers.

I bet there are plenty of people getting frustrated when they see a thread related to their problem that has an answer, only to find the 'answer' is merely some MVP asking what happens when booted to safe mode.

Suggestion: Icons in the thread list that indicate whether a new post has been made since user's last visit.

One of the worst things about the MS Answers forums is viewing a thread and realising there's nothing new in it.
I know we can opt in to the alerts (which often arrive out of chronological order) but we don't all want our inboxes filling up.

Since I got my new computer and operating system, I cannot print from my cannon MP830. It always says not compatible with this operating system ...and YES, I have tried to reinstall the printer drivers until hay is coming out my ears to no avail...no support from VISTA or Cannon. I have spent a multitude of hours and finally figured out it is not worth my time and effort. I miss my xp operating system and WHY DID THEY MAKE VISTA ANYWAYS??????!!! If it is not broken then do not fix it!!!!!!!!! I think Windows Vista should pick up the cost for my new printer since they failed to consider in their new product line other systems that need to be compatible. I recommend that no one switch over from windows xp to vista. I had to because it was all Dell sold with the computer I wanted. If I had to do it differently, I would pay the extra money to keep windows XP. Who is too blame and why do I have to incur this additional expense?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask this, but none of the other seemed appropriate.

I haven't signed in for a while (since 2007), and when I signed in today to ask an MSE question, the forum asked me to create a profile after I successfully signed in. When I tried to use my previous name for the profile "display" name (lalittle), however, it told me that this name was already in use. I can still see my old post using my old display name (lalittle), so I know I am not mistaken about the name being correct, but I can't use this name for my new "profile" display name.

In other words, I am unable to create a new post using my previous name even though I'm using the same email address and user account. It appears that this is due to the addition of this "profile" system which was not in use back when I first signed up and posted back in 2007. I had to use the profile display name "lalittle1" instead of "lalittle" just now in order to create this post, but I'd like to use my OLD username (without the "1") if possible.

Is there any way to utilize my previous display name for my current display name? The name is in use, but it's in use by ME using the same email address that I did back then.

Hi...

I hope I'm in the right place. I saw very little feedback on this forum but lots of what look like technical and general questions - even some that seem to have nothing to do with Microsoft products. Anyway:

I think the Answers format is a big improvement on those in other areas - Office, for example. Microsoft forums have always been a bit of a last resort in the past, but this is much more useable. I particularly like 'My Threads', which lets me easily keep track of topics I've asked about and contributions I've made, especially since I too am not getting response alerts. Frankly, I can't be bothered with workarounds - I either get an email or I don't, and if I don't there's not much point in having the feature.

My suggestion (which I'm fairly sure will have been made already) is that Answers is expanded to include more forums, such as one for Office.

So.. many thanks for a far better experience when seeking help or offering it.

How do you add 'signature' with all the details in multiple lines.

Read the above link re the information given on how to bypass Parental Controls; including Password Resetting/Cracking Tools..

Microsoft promotes Parental Controls in their Operating System as a Sales Feature, but allows information to bypass it to be published in these Forums.

These may be Public Forums, but they are still supposed to be Moderated by Microsoft.

And in case it gets Edited by the poster, SpiritX, I have taken a PrtScrn of it.

Files of the above have been forwarded to Microsft Management.

To whom it may concern. I was reading these and couldn't help but to ask. Malkeleah and The C. are at odds it seems. Is this the forums policies to other members and people that help, in Answers to reply in such a manner? I think this moderators reply's are quite harsh and inapproriate. Both of them have a lot of medals. I mean I am new here and would think twice about asking anything here if this is all that will happen instead of helping me.

I don't know how many questions I've put in the normal tech questions forums area, and I can see other users questions experiencing the same thing, that go completely unanswered/nor does anyone ever respond. I can see why IF they are just rude comments/ridiculous questions....etc., but NOT if they are legitamate questions/concerns about a problem they may be having with their copy of win7. I'm just wondering WHY soooo many go without any comments/suggestions what so ever?

My suggestion would be to have at least 1 "Expert"/"Microsoft Engineer" be assigned at least 1 group forum to go through each page of that one forum he/she is assigned to pick out the questions that go completely unanswered/without comments, and take as many as he/she could for their allotted time in the forums for questions/answers and help the users out.

I have gotten to the point, in the past, where I get so frustrated at the SEEMINGLY ignoring of my questions that I just come back and delete them and I go WITHOUT any satisfactory response at all. Just my 2 cents.

Help Please:

I paid extra for support but cannot locate a product I.D. It is not the sku or key # therefore, I get not help. This should be on the paper work that I received with the back up disks.

I very recently purchased MS Office 2007 The Ultimamate Steel. It is a complete suite. After it loaded my computer was way to slow. Apparently I had a worm. I had to have the computer wiped and lost my MS word. I had put another program on my daughters computer and it is not on the internet but in my house. How can I get this loaded back on my computer. I am told by the guy that did the repair that I cannot load this software more than 2 times. While it was being repaired I put it on my daughters computer in the bedroom. I thought I could put it on 3 times. I put the cd in to install and it does not come up. Can I get MS to allow me to re install the program? I just bought this in Oct. and have not gotten to really use it. My daughters computer is not routed to mine and therefore I cannot get on the net with hers unless I take away her computer and I just got it at a surplus sale at a college. It will break her heart.

I just asked a question and got some replies that popped up in my hotmail inbox. From there, I can't respond to you. I get a postmaster failure notification. So how do I let you know whether or not I have been helped? I don't seem to see an inbox here. I've looked at my threads and my alerts, and the responses themselves aren't listed there, just the number "2".

This must be really obvious and I'm just not getting it.

Clicking "Support" on microsoft.com results in a forever loading page that never goes anywhere. microsoft.com/support redirects to support.microsoft.com which is an unhandled error page -- complete with a suggestion to the site developer as to how to fix the error. Really, guys?

When I have a Reply box open and replying to a question if I decide to mark a post as being helpful via the "Vote as helpful box" in the same thread while still having the Reply box open with my partial reply under construction, clicking on the "Vote as helpful box" causes my reply to vanish, the whole Reply box to vanish, and if I click on the Reply button to reopen the Reply box, it tells me that the Reply box is already open, it may well be, but I can't see it. The only workaround I have is to leave the thread and reopen the thread once more and begin typing my reply once more.

The moral of this story is not to vote anything as helpful until you have finished and submitted your own reply.

Sometimes, someone really needs a "less than gentle" reply and it is not nice to spank someone in public (regardless of how fun it is!)

I am wondering why Microsoft want to release Windows Vista as it's not up to scratch yet too many bugs as well. I think they just want to make profit out of the people whose use PC based computer. Even after all latest updates, I still encountered problem with this stupid OS. Maybe is a time to change to Linux or Mac based computer. Windows 98 and XP are more stable than this stupid OS. Marking something as an answer appears to end any further consideration of a thread by Microsoft Support. Shouldn't the person that asked the question be the one to decide if it was answered?

Hi I do not know if I am in the right place , but lets start here. I am 53 , 3 yaers ago iI was disanossed terimal, I am not bed ridden all the time but alot. I used to be on top of computers but that has slipped by me now. I can no longer use a desktop cause I cannot sit at a desk. I am giving you background not for sympsny but understanding. My husband is a fireman so moneny for a laptop is a trade for my healthcare. I need to be able to rejoin the world and search for medical help, grants c spine reasearch and play pogo. Every dollar I spend must be worthwhile. There can be no waste, They say I have between 3 and 10 years, so this laptop needs to fill that slot. I understand this is not your everyday question and its not a scam.I can provide proof of what I am talking about. I have no supportother than my own making, example if you walked into your office and got a dollar from everyone there{say ten people} Its one drug one month, everything I do is balanced by that example. we live in a small town in nc trapped by insurance and qualify for no help, the house and everything is gone, In a town of 800, with a salary of 32,000.00 a year the only help is what I can find. If youu have the time from you I need your skill, specs on a computer that could do what I need ,connect to a tv for entertainment, abilityto search the web , companionship, since I anm alone alot as I write this my husband is on duty he will be gonewith this storm for a mim of 3 days ,I am over an hour away so phone is my only contact. if I am giving up medical care for this computer it needs not to be useless in 3 months. It needs a large screen and a seperate number pad , I have loss of some limb use,this is not a gag if anyone would have the varyied knowledge this would take I figure its you guys.

It's six weeks since Manny S. [MSFT] advised the enquirer in this thread to visit the Windows Live Messenger forum. Whenever I click on the link he gave, I am told that I'm not authorized to perform this action. When do you plan to launch the remaining Live forums? I'm talking about

• My Home Page and Profile
• Hotmail and Mail
• Windows Live Messenger
• People, Contacts, Groups, and Invitations
• Writer and Spaces
• Permissions and Sharing
• Account and Windows Live ID
• My.Live.com

I know that there are already forums for Writer and my.live.com at
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowslive

but I'd like to see the others as well.

Using an email other then hotmail.com with Forum?

Is it possible to have a default email address other then hotmail.com in using the forum? I would like to change it to my default email address for notifications of questions replies, but can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Problem Searching Microsoft support - Is search broken??

I searched to see if anyone else had reported a problem and found this:-

wrong search results appearing

"I'm trying to find answers for "Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Vista" and no matter what the heck I enter I get a bunch of answers about XP and NONE for vista. So far I'm totally unimpressed with MS Answers - I like the old interface MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Most likely MS will push forward just because they believe it to be better and to ____ with the user. This is the approach they have taken with Vista. Yes I'm upset! "

The reply (partial) was:-

"There must be a problem with search, then, becuase the current version of Answers is for Vista issues only; you should be finding very few mentions of XP if you are using the site search. I believer the below should answer your questions, but I'd love the steps you used for searching - did you use the search box at the top of the page, did you search within a forum, etc. - so we can surface the right information."

to which I thought: WOW Vista Only. I have been directed here by BING doing an advanced search in Microsoft support for answers relating only to XP Home!!!! All the answers to my query were for Vista. Searching Vista didn't work. All the answers still for Vista with http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/aed0eabe-a9cb-486a-bf14-b8cfeeacf0cf/ as a typical response.

Switching off "support forums" by unticking the box did not change the results, ALL the answers were still from the forums.

The really weird part is that many of the "answer previews" start "Windows XP ..." and yet when read do not contain XP anywhere on the page!!!

MSE - My view

This isn't going to be very helpful, however, I've been using MSE on two seperate HP laptops, one running XP Pro and the other XP ME. The XP Pro machine is my secondary development machine. I like to keep this machine as unclogged of extra ____ as possible. That's why I dumped McAfee in favor of MSE. I have had absolutly zero problems on either machine. I'm not a huge Microsoft fan, but MS hit a huge homerun with me on this one.

Do questions get moved from the original (opening) forum to a more correct forum? I thought I read that while I was asking my first question? REPEAT - Somehow the first attempt ended up in "Desktop and personalization"

I'm asking because I opened/asked my first question in "Desktop and personalization", for lack of a better forum. "System Troubleshooting" or "System Interrogation" would better describe the nature of my question, but neither exists.

I've received no replies, can you suggest a better forum from the 14 listed? And if so how do I move it from one forum to another?

So far I've posed several questions about windows 7 issues. The responses have been nothing more than elementary. When I tested the beta and RC versions I was impressed...now not so much so.

Windows Vista Ultimate is not good

I purchased a Vista Ultimate (on Dell XPS laptop) last year. I had great expectations of the best ever OS from Microsoft when paying for the Vista Ultimate. However, I have found there are a lot of problems with Ultimate and even that I have gotten BSOD and irrepairable OS files (no HW errors).

Would microsoft be able to provide me a free upgrade to Windows 7? After all, I did not get the satisfaction for what I paid for for Vista Ultimate and I dont see a better Vista Ultimate coming out.
