Does any other vista ultimate user feel like me.
I have been using Microsoft since AOL was the only internet I knew of and I was excited to get vista ultimate and office 2007, then a week and a half later I found out they were making windows 7. I called Microsoft so mad I was shaking, I don't even want to get in to all that, but after there pricing thing for every other person besides ultimate users, and the fact their extras are trash. Come on chess and Texas holdem and some cheap <removed> dream scape. Microsoft does not care about it's most loyal customer and my question is. I have paid thousands for Microsoft products over the years and after that I have no problems and will not feeling bad pirating every Microsoft OS for the rest of my life. Yes they got me with the 300 vista ultimate and the service call because I registered and the lady said I should not have it started my 30 or whatever day tech service plan, best buy told me a year Mr super salesman., well 40 or 50 years of free Microsoft products ought to make up for it, so has anyone else lost the bad feeling about taking Microsoft software anymore.

- I too have been a loyal customer of Microsoft ever since the MS-DOS. I too have spent thousands buying Microsoft products over the years, for my business and for personal use. Itoo am extremely disapointed with Microsoft's attitude towards their most loyal users. Being forced to purchase the most expenive Windows 7 Utimate in order to replace the piece of junk they called Windows Vista Ultimate without having to spent many of my valuable hours doing a full install is in my mind absurd. In addition, I had to relinquish the balance of my Life One Care subscription because it is not supported on Windows 7.
I have just bought a new MAC Pro Desktop and will transfer my business to Apple. Hopefully they are a bit more loyal to their customers. - Dutch,, My first was a Tandy, with a external hard drive,,I just bought a xps,,figured i have had dells for so many years,, and payed dearlyfor data transfer,,Just under 300 dollars,,the first of 5 so far,,shows up and has no cable to go from xp to vista!!!!!!!!! Ive been in buisness for 33 years,,and if i treated my customers,,shuch as dell,,and so I thought i would call Microsoft,,as I was getting no where with dell.. and I agree,,it has not worked right since late aug - sept, untill today, its still not right,,finnaly got a teck that explained alot to me,, theres a lemon law on comps,,and i have one,, Im waiting for the ok till they send me one like my wife has a dimension,,with xp,,never a bit of trouble,,,and i also spent well over 500 dollars for the 3 year in house service,, Im turning them into the state of ct. consumers protetion div,,every state has one,,and dont forget your local tv station,,, dell stock just went down last week,, WONDER WHY?????? Best of Luck to you,,and its wasnt what i payed for,,i should of spent way less than half..and upgraded my old dell, with all the big HD,,and memory,,
As for microsoft,, that was a Horror show also,,said they have to make money,,for the richest man in the usa!!!!! Even Warren Buffet will talk to a perfect stranger,,and hand you a Bill,,Its Unbelievable,,your Idea sounds good!!!!!!!!!!Jack,,PS ,Apple cant be any worst.!!!!!- Edited bystorts Monday, November 23, 2009 4:26 PMadded
Agree
Microsoft and Dell big disappointments. Been buying products for 20 years. No more.I have just bought a new MAC Pro Desktop and will transfer my business to Apple. Hopefully they are a bit more loyal to their customers.
Dutch,
Bad news for you, they are worse. Much worse.
Not only do they ignore your suggestions, they charge you twice as much for the privilege.
Enjoy.
And to you "designtheworld" -
I you truly believe that a couple of less than satisfactory experiences justifies your public statement that you will BECOME A THIEF, then I feel sorry for you.
You are just a whining child after all.
After clicking on your website link I laughed out loud. "Prison Blues?" Glad you are familiar with them, since you will probably be experiencing them. Hilarious.
VP Tech Services- That website "prison blues" keep on laughing, like that is what I put there just for people to see. I don't remember ever linking that site to this, I have many domains, and I just really don't have time to mess with it now while learning programming. The account had the "ftp" if this is your account bla bla bla, anyway I just clicked on a random index.html page and uploaded it. But think whatever you want, I live in michigan, we can always meet up and "talk about it, Let me know.

I understood it was not a real site, per se. I have a few similarly set up just to hold the space. I just thought it was humorously ironic.
Anyway, it doesn't sound like we would have anything much to talk about.
You are obviously a young man, maybe a little too full of yourself and I left that guy behind me more than 20 years ago.
You also just publicly admitted an intent to "not feeling bad pirating every Microsoft OS for the rest of my life" and you presumed to get defensive about it?
I find it strange that, if you are "learning programming" as you say, you have no moral issues with stealing another programmer's hard work.
I do hope that you will eventually outgrow that thinking and become a conscientious developer with some code that is good enough for others to want to steal.
I also hope by then that people will not find it so easy to do so. When it is your own groceries at stake, it's a different game entirely.
Good luck.
VP Tech Services- I was having a real bad day yesterday and should not have said meet up and we will "talk" about it, and I hope I do write code that other's want to steal, but if I write flawed code and the fix it, I will not change the UI and call it a new program like ms did with vista and seven, My vista just crashed the other day and would not reboot after a ms update, and so much for the supposed secure peace of mind of being able to use backup disc's, and/or restore points ect when buying ultimate, because none of it worked and it would not repair from boot disc, backup discs, and said I had no restore point. I am glad I had it dual booted with windows 7 rc so I could get to all my files left on there that were not on my external drive since I thought I was safe with the 50 or so dvd backups and hours wasted since last year doing backups. I know you could care less, but my 32 bit vista ultimate disc will not work anymore, It stopped after a dozen times of trying to boot from it, and then I emailed microsoft and asked if I could send them the package disc's and reciept and just get a 32 bit boot disc since I do not want to move to the 64 bit yet and I have that disc, it came with the package, and she emailed back No, so what do I do? so I am not going to pirate anything I guess, I give up on them. I downloaded ubuntu 9.10 and will use that dual booted with windows 7 rc till it runs out in spring, I could use my factory disc and go back to vista basic, but I would rather use ubuntu than just vista basci, I don't see why more people are not using one of the linux distro's, I have not installed it yet, but you can run it from the install and test it. It did not look that bad, I did not install my nivida drivers, so I don't know how good it can look, but after messing around a half hour with it, it seems like a good os, and it's legally free.
- Hi,
I fully understand how a bad day (or week) can color one's attitude in a big way and no personal offense was taken, I assure you.
And actually, I do care quite a bit or I would never go to the effort of trying to help folks here like I do during my "leisure" time.
I hate that you and quite a number of others are having or have had difficulties with Vista, and I am fairly certain MS would have done it differently if they had had any idea of the fiasco it was to become. I wish you had a real "guru" as a friend, neighbor or co-worker/student who could work through it with you. If you were in my neck of the woods (not much of an exaggeration!) I would certainly see what I could do. I was an early beta tester and successfully ran Vista U64 until 7 was in Beta. I had a number of lesser issues that I worked out through pure persistence and scouring online forums, but compared to 7 it was a very "needy" OS.
Backups are a very hot topic now and getting a good (effective and reliable) backup should be drilled into people at the primary school level. I have always been partial to the disk imaging-type of backup and have used the free DriveImageXML from Runtime Software for years with 100% success. They have a "drive to drive" method that is so good, I actually booted to and ran from the copy on an external drive and didn't realize it for some time. Disk imaging combined with automatic offsite backups of actual data and not progs is the second part of the answer. Now that 7 does imaging nicely (and creates a VHD for the purpose) I quit using DriveImage. FWIW, the cost of notebook-sized external drives being so low, I wouldn't use DVDs anymore for anything but archiving or transporting photos and such.
If your factory disc won't boot, then MS is definitely on the hook for a replacement, (IMHO) and I would call, not email, until I got some satisfaction.
If you have already blown out the Vista partition and don't want the heartache of that, then I would say put it behind you and move on with 7 and whatever else you choose to use.
Let me say that if you have a legitimate license for an OS, I honestly believe the medium it is installed from has no bearing on the legality of it. If you can get a good disc for the right (exact) version (downloaded or cloned) then you should. I would copy a friend's disc rather than download just for safety's sake.
As to Linux, I am a longtime user of a number of distros and Ubuntu is good, but if you want to try something different, I have found PCLinuxOS to be the friendliest one yet. It is actively developed/updated and has a half dozen different desktop interfaces available. They also have a very decent support community in place. I installed it in a dual-boot config with XP on a pitiful old Dell latitude notebook and it installed beautifully and had wi-fi support and full graphics on the first boot. They also do the "LiveCD" thing so you can try before you commit your drive to it. In my experience, it spanks XP for many common tasks. I like openSUSE, too.
The only really bad thing about Linux is, if you need to use mainstream Windows apps for work - you are largely out of luck. WINE really doesn't work that well. Also drivers for hardware is pretty much hit or miss in most cases.
Good luck in whichever direction you decide to go.
