Is it possible to turn off the hand-holding in these forums? In other words, just have a Subject box, a Content box and a Post button? All this "Describe your question or problem", "Add Details", and "My question is about..." are annoying for regular forum users.

Also, is there a way to make my Alerts go to an email account that I actually use, rather than to account I set up to get access to the forums?

The description on the Ask a Question page is there by default, and we don't have a way to turn it off.
the Alerts is, unfortunately, not configurable as we use Windows live Alerts, and they no longer enable you to change the email.

If the LiveID you have is mail enabled, you should be able to set up a rule to have all mails from the forums forwarded to another mail account.
