    Hello, cgadd

Thank you for using the Answers Forum!

I have moved your post to the Internet Explorer forum where you will find a community better suited to support your question.

You can enable AutoComplete, and access its options by going to Tools and clicking Internet Options. In the Internet Options screen click the Content tab and click the Settings button in the AutoComplete section. On the AutoComplete Settings screen ensure that the Address bar option is checked along with any other areas you wish to use this for.

Let us know if this helps or if you need additional support.

I have been trying to fix this for weeks!  Your advice does not work for IE8.  AutoPopulate in address bar was so much better than the drop down list.  I miss it.  Please advise.

    Findsarah,
A similar result as AutoPopulate for IE7 can be achieved by pressing Shift + Enter on your keyboard when the drop down menu results with your desired address.

Alternatively, as David suggested, you may turn on all but the search results from the address bar in Internet Options to only list results for addresses you have entered. Then a simply arrow key navigation and enter will take you where you wish.

I have searched a number of sites for this feature -- autopopulate within auto-complete -- and they all agree that the feature, as was normal in IE7 is not doable in IE8. Being that this is the one feature I most use, I reverted to IE7. I have not that much need for the newer features. Perhaps if MS one day decides to include that feature in IE8, then I might upgrade.

please add me to the list of people who want inline autocomplete brought back to IE8!!  I HATE having it gone.  Enough that I'm starting to think about Firefox (hint hint).

This doesn't work for inline autocomplete.  Why did Microsoft disable this extremely useful feature?  I will have to downgrade to the previous version or find a different browser that doesn't upgrade to a new system that has fewer useful features.

I went back to IE 7 once I found you could no longer have auto-inline complete.  But recently IE 7 has been getting errors that cause it to have to be shut down on both of my computers.  I have no idea why, I have kept it updated.  Once I found that my movie download site now supports Firefox,  I installed that and activated auto inline complete.  I will be uninstalling IE 7 now, at least until IE 8 puts auto inline complete back in options.
