Hello, I have downloaded the Windows 7 RC and got my key for installing it. The problem is that when I do that, the installer goes well up until the point it has to start for the first time, at that point the machine freezes at the boot logo and does not finish the boot. Safe mode does not work because windows has not completed the installation process and there's nothing I can do. My PC specs are as follows: Motherboard ASUS M2A-VM HDMI (AMD 690 chipset with integrated Radeon X1200 Graphics) Integrated AC97 24 bit Audio and Gbit LAN. CPU AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+ (@2.8 Ghz.) 4GB RAM DDR2 800 Kinsgston (2x 2GB slots) XFX 9800GT video card (PCI-E) 512 MB DDR3 memory 1x 320 GB Samsung SATA II drive (2 partitions 1x50GB System and 1x244GB Files) 2x 250 GB Samsung SATA II drives 1x SATA ASUS DVD-RW drive All the hardware seems to be compatible and there are no extra add ons in the PC. At this moment I'm running Windows 7 RC 32 bits. I'm looking forward to buying a 64 bits version but I want to know that I will be able to install it so if there is any advice/tool that you can suggest me to solve my problem I will appreciate it.

I figured it out. I had My HD drives set to IDE mode for compatibility, when I set them tp AHCI it all worked just fine and now I have windows 7 x64 installed and running without problems. Maybe this can help others with this issue.

Have you tried doing a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit?

It was a clean Install, I booted from the DVD, formatted the hard drive and did an install with zero data on the drive. That's why i'm so pissed of. I also had updated the motherboard bios just in case. The weird thing is that win7 32bits runs just fine!!! One more thing, looking through the forum I found this error message reproduced by another user with the same problem "Startup Repair Problem Signature Problem EventName: 6.1.7100.0 Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7100.0 Problem Signature 02: Unknown Problem Signature 03: 42 Problem Signature 04: ExternalMedia Problem Signature 05: 1 Problem Signature 06: FailureDuringSetup OS Version: 6.1.7100.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033" It is similar to what I see, but I could not record it. It seems like when the motherboard boots windows from the hard drive (after the install process ends the DVD part) it cannot read the DVD anymore, but I tried with the SATA DVD and the IDE DVD units I have installed and got the same error with both of them.

Try burning the ISO file again to DVD at the lowest speed possible and reattempt installation.

Done that already 4 times. the first 3 burns where on DVD-R media, the last on a DVD-RW at 2x speed (the lowest possible). No difference. I even tried installing with only the primary HD and the DVD drive used to read the ISO media. No luck. All I can tell you is that on this machine I installed Windows Vista, upgraded to the first win7 beta and a fresh install of the RC (all of them 32bits with NO PROBLEMS). When I tried a clean 64bit RC install, bump, no luck. There is something wrong here and it is not the lack of drivers... or compatibility with hardware. The drivers for 64 bits XP and Vista are on the ASUS web site since long ago. I'm assuming win7 would have enough resources to read a SATA HD and DVD all by it's own.
