QuestionOfficial date on the release of Windows 7 Famil Pack?

After noticing a couple of on line stores were taking pre-orders of Windows 7 family pack ( and actually ordering it) . I recently got an email stating that the order has been cancelled.  Something about back-order.  So now I am confused about and cannot find definitive info about this.

If I read correctly, the Microsoft people said it would be released October 22nd.  Other sites say that the family pack is available as an early release to order. I originally ordered from E-Cost, but the order was cancelled.

So is or will the fam pack be available before---- or ON October 22nd.  I'd hate to miss it or battle the rush and not be able to get ahold of this special.  Anyone know for sure how this is going to work?
    Thanks,
    Alan Johnston

Microsoft has said many times before, it will be available "on" "October 22nd 2009". There are pre-order options for it, but you will not get it until "October 22nd 2009".

Maybe I should have been more clear.  I DO know that it will be released on Oct 22, but I was hoping to find somewhere where I could pre-order it before then.  That way I would hope to be "locked in"--- or at least standing in line.

    Thanks
