    Hi Frescovic and rgiusto,

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7 community forum.

Microsoft has believed for some time now that a combination of the rich functionality that comes with the Windows OS and consumers’ favorite services on the web provides the best Windows experience. With Windows 7, the following services will no longer be available in the Windows operating system: Windows Mail, Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts, Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker.  This change only applies to future versions of Windows and does not impact Windows Vista or Windows XP.  Similar functionality for email, contacts, calendar, photo and movie making will be available for free from Windows Live, removing the duplication of functionality for our consumers between Windows and Windows Live. These services are available in a single download via Windows Live Essentials, at www.download.live.com. These Windows Live tools will be regularly updated to provide innovative functionality and best-of-breed integration with other Windows Live and popular web services, while harnessing the power of the Windows PC.

If you have not reviewed the www.download.live.com Windows Live Essentials suite, it may be applications that provide the kind of experience you are looking to embrace for your future forms of communication through those applications.

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7 community forum.

    Kami,
There will most likely be a calendar program with Windows 7. However that being said Windows Live essentials is working on a  standalone calendar program.

And for the time being, you may use Windows Live Mail to use the built in Calendar program.

I used to sync my Nokia N95 with the window calendar of vista. I installed Win 7 and i cant do that. Why did you take out the calendar? It was really useful to get my real time notifications on the phone and in the computer.

Windows 7 is really a good OS, but are this little things that can make a world of difference...

yes it's the little things. I use iCal, and Address Book on my iMac in my home office, which I sync to my Blackberry. I sync my Comcast mail to Mail on my iMac too. I also sync the calendar and contacts data from my BlackBerry to Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts on my HP Vista-based laptop. I maintain both Mac and Windows systems/platforms.

I have never wanted to use Windows Live Mail nor do I want to use Outlook. I don't need another email or PIM client. After installing Windows 7 I discovered there is no calendar or contacts app. You guys are going to force me into Windows Live Mail for those?

Windows 7 has been great so far but I'm dead in the water as far as getting my calendar and contacts back on my PC/ Any other suggestions? I have to work on both Mac and Windows platforms.

Hi Frescovic, this issue irked me too, unfortunately till now there is no standalone calender available from Windows.. You will have to do this the hard way. You will have to use outlook to synchronise calendar then export the calender to whtever program or site you like.

I think most people would like the option of having reminders sent 'locally'; not though instant messenger, phone, or e-mail.  I didn't buy Vista until I was sure that the calendar worked properly- that is, I turned on the computer and the reminders popped up without having to even start the program.  The Works calendar also worked this way on the older operating systems.  Microsoft should either configure Windows Live to perform the same way somehow or provide a standalone calendar the syncs with Windows Live.  The downloadable version doesn't even have a task function yet- that can only be found on the web-based calendar.  I hope Microsoft listens to all the people who yearn for a relieble, usable, standalone calendar program that does what previous operating systems have done for years.
